Alistair when a battle begins will say (once in a while): "Down you go!"
Carth Onasi when a battle begins will say (quite often): "Down you go!"
See? Exact same game!
No?
No.

DA;O wins at characters.
Well, that I can agree with.

That means it loses by default.

You don't think Kotor has a better plot?OneBadAssMother wrote...

I don't think BioWare will ever properly top KotOR -- When you play it you can tell that they spent a massively long time making the game as deep, enjoyable, engrossing and as utterly superb as it is. These days, the pressures to rush games and ship them out as unpolished, unfinished products is the priority.
But anyway, Dragon Age is definitely a good and worthy effort, and a marked improvement over JE and ME, but I think we would be foolish to think BioWare will ever be as good as when they made KotOR.

Dragon Age is the closest BioWare have come to recreating the epicness of KotOR (Jade Empire and Mass Effect fell way below standards after KotOR) but still isn't quite equal.

I don't even think it's possible to re-create such a twist like that, I haven't seen any ever since.

In my opinion KOTOR's plot is FAAAAAAAAR better then any of the Star Wars movies.
Yeap, I'll give it that, it does outshine whatever Lucas came up with.
DA is set in a rather typical fantasy world with too many real world references for me to really like it (the setting). There are some refreshing exceptions, of course.
The story itself is great and the characters are all very well fleshed out.

Not to mention the Sith theme. Especially at the dark-side ending of KOTOR.
That was simply... incredible lol.

Yeah I didn't like the dwarf/elf thing that is rather overkilled.
DA:O met my expectations however, it's a quality Bioware product. The music is also awesome.
However, trying to match KOTOR... that's just unfair! KOTOR is just a one-in-a-lifetime gem.

Plot-twist and characterizations excluded.
But then I thought, how original is DA:O?
Aside from its borrowing from tons of high fantasy novels, and some other bits of classic literature *coughTolkiencough* ... It borrows a lot from KOTOR itself. Supernaturals who basically need to be constrained to be allowed to exist(Jedi/Magi), and its not necessarily evil opposite: apostates(Jolee) blood mages (Jowan) -just to mention a couple parallels.
Anyway my point is, the subject of this thread should be LotR vs Star Wars.
I'll just take Carth and Alistair and be on my way. :>

However, DA:O has much better fleshed out npcs and some of the cutscenes are nothing short of epic.
I'd say the winner goes to DA:O, but there will always be a place for Kotor in my heart.
