Is it unwise to give an arcane warrior light armor?

It just looks so much better on my elf than the bulkier stuff..:D
I'm using a dual wield arcane warrior mod.

It doesn't seem like anyone answered this one... is it necroposting if the thread never actually came to life?

Well, anyway, considering that I was planning to roll a female AW and give her Dalish Armor, I'm going to have to go with "Maker, I hope not."

I played with an arcane warrior with only light armors and I can say that's pretty alright, especially if you want to cast more spells/do more techniques with this awesome mod ^^
I personally prefer medium armor, but light armor, like I said, can do the job, only, well you already know that, that you're mage will be more squishy and it'll be more dangerous on the melee line ^^

Remember that the enemies are drawn to the heavier armor initially in a battle if you don't pull them first with a overpowered spell. So if you want it for defense then make sure someone in your party is wearing something heavier to draw the baddies away from you first e.g. your tank. Exception here is Emissaries and enemy mages. Once they learn of you, they will focus on you first just like you should be doing to them.
You want to be a scrapper, then you may also want to invest in DEX to help them miss and added CON for when you do get hit. CON is your friend as a BM anyway.
Armor doesn't eliminate damage it only "minimizes" it. Plus you want to pay attention to fatigue caused by heavy/massive armors it will pull from your mana pool like stamina. In Origins, I would stick to robes but in Awakenings and beyond which start providing armor slots and the Specialization Combat Mage, you will definitely want to consider heavier armors.
BOTTOM LINE: Unless your play style is to be a scrapper, it is not necessary and you should focus on items that enhance magic/willpower and/or spellpower. The quicker it dies the safer you are.

Yes, a spellsword kind of arcane warrior is cool with light armor, or even better with the reaper's vestments as I like to think. But as Sylfschiffer said, the AW is going to be comaparatively squishy, so rushing blindly to the heat of the action is probably not an optimal idea. But perhaps with a tank, starting the fight by casting a few spells to thin the ranks, and then joining the fray with swords or Sword and shield drawn, while the tank holds aggro seems to be a very fun way of doing things.

The winter forge mod allows you to transfer looks and stats from armor to armor I think, you could use that and be wearing heavy armor that has the light armor look.
