Okay from what I've read online I can see that the steps are:






Grab the earthen jug. Fill the jug with water




Put the jug on the top of the altar. Kneel down and pray at the altarExamine the jug. Take a single drink


Grab the jug and do not touch the altar. Dump the jug out
into the pool. Listen for the shattering noise to signal the opening of
the door.



The problem is I pray in front of the fountain and when I go back to it, the jug is empty - so I can't take a sip.

What could I be doing wrong? I'm literally following the steps above but when I go to pray it says something about the water becoming gas and shooting from the top of the jug?

Let's see. Fill the jug with water. place jug on altar. pray at alter. take single sip. get jug. dump jug into pool. Sounds right to me.

You said you prayed at the fountain. Make sure it's at the altar. I've had to exit out of the dialogue queue (leave the altar alone) and then start it up again in order to take the sip from the jug.

I know this was a month old but if some finds the puzzle fails at the praying part you need to go get the tablet from a sarcophagus in another room first.
