I just got this game and I'd like to play a mostly strict RP playthrough. I don't have much experience with roleplaying (aside from ME), so here's where I'd love some help.

I picked a 2H warrior just because the animations are very graceful. I'm wondering about armor though. As far as I know, heavier armor imposes fatigue penalty, which is bad for skill-using 2Hs. It also makes the enemy more likely to attack me. Lorewise, would it make sense to go with massive armor then? Or should I stick to heavy armor? What is medium armor for (Rogues and mages would stick with light leather and clothes, right)?

Some of the massive armor are really pretty (the one that came with the DLC is one), but while they look good on males, the females look like we are drowning in those armor with our head barely sticking out. I know there are mods, but I'd prefer to play an unmodified game. I just don't know lore (or even real world medieval history) well enough to know whether she would prefer heavy armor or massive armor.

Thanks for any help!

My opinion would be that 2H warriors would choose to wear massive armor. Their armor is pretty much their only defense. They carry no shield. They are not agile enough to dodge. So armor would likely be chosen to be as strong as possible.

So massive armor fits from the perspective of lore.

This is the 'no-spoilers' side of the forum, so I can't really give advice on how to build a 2H warrior, but if you are interested I think there are threads over on the 'spoilers' side of the forum that discuss the various ways of building a 2H warrior.

Either heavy or massive armour works on a 2h warrior, there are NPCs in game who wield 2h weapons and wear both types. Ser Cauthrien being an example of a female 2h warrior who wears heavy rather than massive armour. An effective heavy armour set can be obtained once you reach Denerim by buying Evon the Great's mail for the body slot and combining that with Wade's superior dragonscale set. Evon the great's mail body still grants the set bonus from Wade's set for some reason.

You will need to complete the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest to obtain the dragon scale required for Wade's set.

For female 2hers I prefer Heavy over Massive armour. @DuskWarden mentioned my favorite pairing for a female 2h warrior, or an Arcane Warrior (I think it works well on them as well).

(I first read the title of the thread as "Love-friendly armor?", which conjured up rather inapropriate images of heavy armor with easy access zippers. )

I think that within the fantasy world of DA:O, heavy, or even massive armor is right for two handed weapon wielders.

I don't know about "real life" - fairly heavy there too, I think, but not sure. In medieval times where two handed swords were used, I do know though that they weren't used the way the game depicts them being used. Aparently gauntlets were a must when wielding a two handed sword, because you would often grip the blade, either when blocking blows, or when using a move like shoving the sword upwards under the chin of the opponent (where the armor was weak, or non existent), killing him. I don't think that gripping from the handle and swinging away was very popular. :)
