I chose to go to Nashkel first. Now that I have made my way north to the Friendly Arm Inn there is no sign of these two anywhere. I did pick up Monty and Xzar along the way, though Monty was killed by a poisonous spider. Does this impact their availability? Party's reputation is currently at 6. I'm now in Chapter 3.
No big loss either way. I don't like either character. But I was hoping to at least get Kahlid killed off by some ogres. Any ideas?
Where is Kahlid and Jaheira?

They are at the inn, at the back of the main room (left of the bar) as seen from the doorway.

If you do the mines first they are no longer there. That much is certain.
Your post doesn't say whether you've done the mines. It might be that the trigger is speaking to the mayor, rather than doing the mines.
If you have them all in the same party, keeping them all happy can be VERY tricky.
