I don't necessarily want the happy ending. I want a good ending.

We wanted to succeed with the mission. Not find out the genocide is a good option. That Saren and IM were right all along.

I came to destroy the Reapers, not to commit pointless genocide of ALL synthetic life.

A 'Fulfilling ending' where you and most of the squad (including LI) live should be an option. Period.

When they said 16 endings I though, wow, I could get everything from everyone dies horribly all the way to I live happily ever after! But little did I know that it mean, pick a color and we'll give 16 minor variations depending you your STUPID EMS Score!!!!!

If no alt endings then the end seems pointless

I want a happy ending. And happy for me is my Shepard standing in the observation deck of the Normandy with Tali and Garrus by his side after killing the Illusive man and Harbinger with his bear hands activating a switch that blows up Earth. He then moves on with Tali and Garrus to take over the galaxy and they rule by his side.

An ending that leaves the taste for more mass effect and not one of smut.

To be honest I will take a Dragon Age 1 sad ending. The Warden died for a reason that I could understand, currently I cannot say the same for Shepard.

I'll be honest.  I didn't take Garrus with me on the final run because I didn't want him pulling an Alistair.  I expected my Shepard would have to die to defeat the reapers.  However, BioWare didn't even give me that.

I honestly don't know what I got. Image IPB

Happy ending: Reapers dead, all squad mates survive (except for those that had to die so no Thane, Legion/Tali ect.) Shepard lives, mass relays still in one piece

Bittersweet ending: Reapers dead all squad mates survive depending on the circumstances (your two squad mates at the conduit die, Jack may die based on where you put her students ect.), Shepard dies but gets a badass funeral, mass relays destroyed but a metric ****ton of Reaper tech laying around can get everyone back to their home worlds within a year or two

Fantasy ending: Commander Shepard goes supar Sayian, destroys the Reapers and uses the dragon balls to bring back all the people that died.

Theres way more than enough sadness in the game before the ending. Mordin, Thane, Legion, hell even little things like Charr made me want to cry.

Gimme some damn happiness. Please

The whole hero must die is just cliched nonsense.

Listening to that just shows how completely they missed the entire point of the problem. The majority of people are not complaining because they couldn't let go of their character. The ending was just ridiculously poor writing.

They listen, but they only hear what they want to.

Neither Hamlet or Casablanca had happy endings, and they were pretty good. Of course I like choose your own adventure books and I always try for the happy endings in those.

But see... that's not inevitable. You can live if you do certain things.

Anyway, I'm in the camp that will consider it a happy ending if Shepard gets reunited with his/her crew/LI. I'll even take a bittersweet "Shepard may be dead/missing, but look, Ashley is pregnant" ending. Just give us closure in that aspect. Don't leave us hanging like last time.

:crying:

As long as there's a chance for a happy ending, I'll be satisfied.

if shep dies I want it to have meaning, not be just brushed aside in some lame ass ending.

The vast majority of humans, easily 95% plus, vastly prefer happy endings, and overwhelmingly happy endings at that.

It's most likely genetic. We learn through stories, and we are genetically programmed to pay attention and like stories that tell us how to get a happy life and succeed in our goals. As we've evolved, and become both mentally and socially more advanced, so have our stories, but still, we want to hear about people we can relate to getting the girl/guy, saving the day, and generally being awesome.

There's exceptions of course, but far and away the most popular stories have happy, satisfying endings, where the protaganist achieves their goals, that's a universal truth.

And Mass Effect had us 2 and 9/10's of a series that had just that, which is a major factor in why they are so incredibly loved.

Pissing that away in an attempt to be clever and different is amateur, teenage rebellion levels of artistry, doing something shocking and unconventional not because it's going to be enjoyed or because it's a good idea, but simply to stand out. It's annoying when teenagers who don't know any better do it, and damned infuriating when a profesional writer does it, especially when they're completely blind to how unpopular and clichéd doing so is.

Personally, I'd have been ok wih heroic sacrifice if Shepard had achieved what they were supposed to. Saved the universe, got the characters we're told to care about through it safely, allowed everything the game tells you you're fighting for to come to pass and killed the big bads once and for all.

Even then, the vast majority would think its not good enough, since Shepard would be dead.

Bioware royally screwed up by forgetting that they were writing this game for the general public, not patsys and jaded reviewers who've lost sight of what's actually enjoyable amongst the see of generic bad writing that infests gaming, assuming they even saw the endings, as most didn't of course.

Anyone with even a basic knowledge of popular media would have, SHOULD have known that you have to damned well earn any ending that's less than totally happy and have it go down well with a large customer base, especially when you've made those customers expect happy endings with the previous products. Acting like its only a minority that will be unhappy is stupid, because they should know they deliberately made something most people don't like, even before they started down the clarity and closure route.

I wanted to see victory.
I wanted to suffer utter defeat.
I wanted to betray everyone and become a Shepard Reaper.

I just wanted a clear cut choice and a ending that is based upon my performance and not a red, blue and green ending that 97% the same.

I'm not even expecting a "happy" ending (which I guess I would define as the squad being rescued, with a reunion with Shepard if they survived or some sort of official memorial), much less a conclusion that actually feels like a victory at this point.

It will be interesting to see some of the consequences of the various decisions, but I don't think the personal relationships are going to be left in any better state than they are now. Shepard dead or somehow alive somewhere. Squad stranded for life. Fleets mostly trapped and Earth a smoking ruin.

Don't even joke about it.  We've all seen the clips of the abomination that is Star Wars Kinect...

EDIT: And just to stay on topic - me.  I wanted a happy ending, or at least the possibility of one if I worked hard enough.

I'd love an option to get happy ending if I did everything that was needed (like I thought I did). I'd settle for a ending that didn't make me feel as though all my efforts were capped off by which color I preferred. But most of all I need a ending that will really make me want to start a second play through. Seriously I tried and I can't get off Earth before I just accept it's useless, give up and maybe play multiplayer. I can't even make motivationals anymore.
