Well, I like how the OP keeps saying it ruined it because they don't get off on that sort of thing. Well you're not supposed to get off on it. Go watch porn if that's what you want. This is trying to tell a story.

I liked how the scene was done, though it was a bit weird. I think Morrigan would have looked better in a simple white "gown" though. Something tight, slender, and appears partially see through. Sometimes less is more.

Erm please try and not make up lies thanks

I didnt say anything about trying to 'get off" on anything

I did say I didnt enjoy it

I say it ruined the immersion

I did say it was like "a cheap D grade porno" not that I wanted to watch one

I did say I dont get off watching puppets having sex - or something like that

I agree its a story not a porno so why ruin it by trying to make it one
I see you also agree with me that sometimes less is more so thanks for not crediting me with that

next time read my post before you misrepresent me thanks

What's interesting is that the animator who did that scene is female. While you may have some points, you may want to hold off on the jumping to conclusions a little.

My comments were a bit uncalled for - the awkwardness of it just left me with that impression

my apologies

I didn't find any of the sex scenes that bad. I actually liked the Morrigan/Alistair scene, that's what I would have expected of Morrigan anyway. =P

I don't see the fuss over them not being sexy though, I doubt BioWare made them so that the players could use them for that sort of entertainment purposes, they're there to imply that these two characters are now going to have sex, cue corny romance music. I think they did a pretty fair job on that... And if we are in the subject of awkward sex scenes in video games, well... I can think of a few that were much worse than the ones in DA.

It's common knowledge that game developers can only be anti-social male geeks whose only experience with women is Rosey Palm and her sisters. They cannot be female, and if male, they cannot be adults who've experienced any sort of long-term relationship.

This is in no way or shape a projection of certain game player’s anxieties about their self-image.

I still think they did the 'scenes' better in Mass Effect. The sex scenes in DA:O were quite 'awkward'. Maybe it was the lighting? Or the proportion of the models used? *shrugs*

I do kinda agree that showing less might have been better.

The thing is that the scenes in ME were much better, so Bioware can do it. I think it's limitations of this particular engine.

I find the kisses in DAO much better.

One thing I'll say is that my dwarf female and Zevran work very well, strangely.  Zevran is only slightly taller than her in thescenes.

I certainly appreciate what the developers tried to accomplish in the final sex scene with Morrigan. Morrigan's almost predatory attitude, the last touch when she blowed out the candle. It was all really good intentions. Unfortunately the technology used couldn't realize the intentions I think. I would call it mostly a matter of bad QA, rather than lack of artistic ability. I don't think it would have really needed that much tweaking to make those scenes work a lot better.

YunDog, while I don't disagree with some of the things you said, I have to point one thing out.

That scene isn't supposed to be romantic. You are deliberately impregnating a "morally grey" woman with a child that will absorb the soul of an old god and prevent your own death when you destroy aforementioned old god. I thought the PC looked freaked, Morrigan looked smug, and that both of those expressions were roughly appropriate. Romantic is the last thing the scene should have been.

The "mood" aside, at some point we simply have to accept that there are limitations to graphics engines. The models don't quite move like an actual person does. The company almost certainly doesn't have the time and resources to make animations SPECIFICALLY for love scenes that it is possible might never be seen at all by the player. Not likely, of course, but it is possible.

You came across as demanding, and rude. And unless you work in the game industry, and know something about how to animate a game, or at least work in movie production or the theatre and thus know how such scenes are scripted, lit, and shot, you also just told the professionals how to do their job. Could you actually do a better one? I could not. After reading the rest of this thread, I don't think you meant to, but you did.

I agree with DarkSpiral. also morrigan's comments make sure that your last night together is everything BUT romantic. She is hungry to complete her task.

On my next playtrough, I'll go with Zevran instead. Or Leliana. that will teach Morrigan a lesson!

In Dragon Age, the ending was basically on par with that in Throne of Bhaal. Maybe the problem is that the Archdemon represents absolute evil, and that's simply not interesting. Bioware should've really devised something better than that. Sarevok was a real person with his emotions and weaknesses. Irenicus was probably their best villain. Melissan was, well, just another character to kill. Saren was a troubled man, thinking that he could stop the Reapers from destroying humanity. The Archdemon was - I don't know who he really was, except for being a corrupted old god and I'll-kill-all-of-ya kind of villain. That's no longer entertaining.

hehhe...

Some people: WAAAH! WAAAH! We want something new! Something different! Something original!

Bio: Ok, we always had machiavelian bosses who talk and preach a lot. How about something diferent? Enter archdemon.

Some People: WAAH! WAAAAAAH!

There's no helping it really.....

The Dragon Age story basically is a mishmash of what has been done before, but then in a bad way. The story that drives Dragon Age is the most simplistic and boring story ever conceived by a person with the title "writer" on his business card.

1 hour into the game you're presented with:

"Let's go kill the Archdemon and with it stop the blight. Also you need to rally a couple of friendly armies to your cause (list provided), which you don't need, but you'll level up along the way so it's cool."

The game offers little surprises and just moves you from one mandatory area to the next. It's pretty much a big dungeon crawler with some nice visuals and a great cast of characters to cover up the absence of a plot.

I feel bad for you.  The quality of a story has nothing to do with how surprising it is.

DA's story is complete suck, it's just presented really well. I think you and I are saying the same thing, but a good story is important in this sort of thing.

But you can't tell me the DA plot was a surprise. They tell you exactly what is going to happen at the beginning and that's exactly how the story goes. It's a disappointment if anything.

Not only that, but that scene isn't supposed to be the ending either.  It has very little to do with the so-called "climax" of the adventure.  It's pretty much the calm before the storm.  This thread's premise  is all sorts of fail.

That said,  I'm having trouble criticising the scene itself.     Before I can conclude that something is "great" or that it "sucks", I typically like to have something relative  to compare it with.  In this case, we have a video game sex scene.  A rarity.    NWN2 OC had one,    IIRC the Sims had one.   Both are extremely cringe-worthy   This one in Dragon age is better.

With ME, they got "what a wimpy love scene, they didn't actually SHOW anything, and it was SO SHORT! WANT MOAR"

So they gave us moar, but due to certain restrictions, they couldn't do the nudity, which was the clincher for a lot of folks. Not because they "get off" on pixelized bewbs, but because these are intended to be highly intimate scenes and folks are still wearing their underwear.

Personally, I liked the love scenes, I liked how they were designed differently for each NPC. However, I liked ME's better. ;)

To the people complaining about the story line, you're a Grey Warden, not Random Adventurer B. While for some of the Origins I would have loved an option to leave Ferelden to it's Fate, City Elf as a female for example, it's still the task of Grey Wardens to stop the Blight. Ritual not withstanding, since you stop the Blight whether you do the ritual or not. The sex scene in question isn't even available in any but one ending anyway.

As much as I loved BG and sequels and expansions, it had the same linear progression to the story. That's the thing about story driven games, no matter what game it is, they are all linear, so far as the story goes. You start out at Point A, and you go to Point B. There is really no other way to tell a story. It's not an MMO where you can't technically beat the game. It's a story driven SP game, with a beginning and an end. The nice thing about it is that you are not railroaded on how to get to Point B, the ending, since the areas can really be done in any order.

You can choose to do, or not do NPC party member side quests, and when to do them, as they come up. You can choose to help the people that you have the treaty with as laid out, or in 2 of 3 treaties, you can come up with different allies. This is based solely on your choices, and how you choose to play out the areas involved. It may very well influence who you do and don't have in party too. So, despite claims to the contrary here, there is lots of flexibility in what your party, and armies look like when you get to the final combat. It would be very easy, for example, to have no NPC mages in your party for the final fight, since it's possible you had to kill Wynne to get the army of Templars, and told Morrigan you wouldn't do the ritual. No mages, unless you happen to be playing one.

I thought it was funny as hell. Morrigans all like "Rawr, come here you" and your PC's all like "But I'm scared", hahaha. I cracked up. Espically since my PC where he romanced Morrigan was a big angry looking dude with a greatsword who had been hacking apart people all game.

a voice of reason

the scene may have not meant to have been romatic mood, but even the worst arrangement of convenience could have been portrayed in a more seductive and sensual atmosphere, you have just risked your life and travelled the country with this woman..

I dont see the point in being an apologist for something not done well

as for those that have rushed to crusade against me because I suggested that the scene reflected its makers inexperience - watching it that was my impression - that it was the sort of thing some 15yr old geek might like.

watch any movie, go to the theatre, watch  the ballet, and see it done better - not that hard to copy

I expressed my opinion of the final scenes of the game - want to take shots at old man - go for it

I care... really I do

Thats really a matter of opinion...anyways its not like you couldn't have skipped the scene, you act like you were made to suffer from the beginning of this cutscene to the end when its as simple as pressing a button.

I thought it was fine, it didn't take anything away from my experience.  If it bothers you so much next playthrough, don't do the ritual...simple as that.

DAO's kissings channel more emotion than it's love scenes which look kinda seedy.

I'd agree with the graphics/tech fell short of the artistic appeal. Plus I get creeped out by my PC's grin and sideways glance. Every time I see it I just go LOL ASSCHABS.

Anyway I like fade to black with the Voice Actor/Actress performing. Kinda like everything in the Pearl. Let your imagination do what the engine can't. Most games do this and they benefit from it.

That said ME's scenes were excellent. DA2 should hopefully follow suit for those.

Also. Last Battles.

That slog through fort Drakon during the final battle KILLED the PACING.

Absolutely killed it. Up until then you were fighting it out on the streets with your army at your back. Suddenly you're in a dungeon with a bunch of Darkspawn and your army is useless. Very lame.

That said the game is worth another playthrough. If only to recruit the Werewolves and then tell their representative in your party to eat Schmooples.

Anyway when it comes to final battles I always liked KOTOR the best. It was the most personal and 1 on 1 battles that showcase your protagonist being a complete badass are always, always welcome.

My current run is with a Casteless Dwarf warrior... Romancing Liliana... my problem is, I am pretty sure that a casteless Dwarf would be having violent controlling sex with the little red head. All this sticky romance is bleh... this is Dragon Age, it should be more animalistic.

What made me wonder is that the player character is going to have a night of passion with Morrigan and still looks miserable,

Throughout the entire game your avatar is void of emotional responces.

Seriously, does none have a problem with seeing zoomed out badly proportioned puppet-like pixelated models of human body in those scenes? I cant believe its just my graphic card...

I think each cutscene takes a lot of resources to make. They should focus less on the graphics, cutscenes and animations. And instead try to capture the emotion afterwards through the dialogue.

I suppose like talking to a friend about it and how you felt.

Or a post coital conversation. You could awkwardly make excuses to get away from Morrigan. (She may actually respond better to this option) Whilst Leliana may respond better if you want to stay and hold her. Zevran may respond better to flattery about his performance and how hot he looks right now.
