Is it located in the Brecilian forest? I have hunted high and low for it and am at a loss.

It is in the lower part of the ruins, past the forest barrier.

If you do not have the branch (staff) from the Elder Tree, you cannot get pass the barrier. You must get the Elder Tree's acorn from the mad hermit.

Ooops! I did get the acorn to the tree and got something back from him, I will have to check my inv...Hope I did not sell it!

I believe it's a plot item. It's a piece of his bark. You should be able to just walk past the clouded path in the woods afterward.

you can get multiple things from the mad hermit

you can find exactly the same number of items to trade as he has things to offer so its ok if you traded for something other than the acorn the first time

It is called the Oak Branch. It is a mage staff and is saleable
