No one suppose to die-Varric story

I think this lately, if DA2 is Varric story, then Varric not suppose to die in combat (if he is one of the party member, example in Deep Road expedition)

Because if we failed in combat, and he died, then who told the story? Eh?

So Varric suppose to have immunity from die in combat (that is everybody fall in combat and loading screen appear)

I think this is the biggest flaw in DA2

Varic: Well, we were all killed in battle against the mages because Meredith was blackmailing Hawke by threatening to kill his sister Bethany, and Meredith rested easy that she lost her largest political rival, even though Hawke kind of stumbled into it and was simply far more popular than Meredith herself was because she was bat-sh** insane, all thanks to a lyrium idol that Hawke discovered in the deep roads.

But then some blood mage came along and revived Hawke, he swore bloody revenge on Meredith and turned her into stone.

Cassandra: But you died as well?

Varric: I think you would've figured out by now, Seeker, I lie a lot.

Varric: Things were looking bad, Blondie and Aveline were down and it was just me and Hawke against the Templars. I managed to crack one's skull open with Bianca just in time to see Hawke take an arrow to the throat. That's when a Templar managed to skewer me through the back. I fell to the ground feeling the warm blood pooling under me, watching the blackness creep in from the edges of my vision. Finally the void took me, and I was suddenly walking out of the cave again with Grace and company in tow. The four of us shared a moment of confusion before we tried to talk down Kerras again; this time we knew what was coming.
