I have yet to try it but if it does work I might. If I make a single player charachter that has something like tech armor then I get the bonus power from my squadmate like fortification would I be able to use both at 1 time and get both bonuses or would 1 override the other upon activation?

No, bonuses do stack up.

So pile them on. But remember there is a limit to how much you can reduce your damage.

So if I used an engineer and activated tech armor while also getting the squad mate bonus power of fortification I could use both? Oh damn wish I knew that before XD Well i know what I'm doing next play through.

Engineer does not have Tech Armor, Sentinel does. Did you mod your game or was that a typo?

Here's a link to Kronner's Sentinel - Biotic Bomber and Walking Armory guide where he uses Tech Armor with Defense Matrix.

Yes, you can use both powers. Problem is, damage reductions are multiplicative. E.g, with fully evolved tech armor you get 40% damage reduction, which means you take only 60% damage. If you add Defensive Matrix with 30% damage reduction, 60% damage you take will be reduced by extra 30%, so you take only 0.6 * 0.7 = 0.42, 42% damage.
Besides, there it no point in gimping your class. I prefer to spec TA for lesser cooldowns and take Warp Ammo as bonus power. Shepard is tough as it is, and some extra firepower only gets things done faster.

Do remember all the ups and downs of the 2 things would stack.

So say you spec'd Tech armor (Durability, Power Damage, Durability) & Defense Matrix (Shield Bonus, Power Synergy,Durability). Over all this would be your benefit.

DR: 55% (Effective)
Tech Damage bonus: 55%
Biotic Damage bonus: 20%
Power CD speed penalty: 140%
Tech Armor Purge: 240 damage in 3.60 m Radius
Defense Matrix Purge: Shields restored by 100%

Edit: On the other side of it you could also leave defense matrix off all the time and only quickly double tap activate/purge it to restore shields. If you do plan on doing this method I recommend only going 4 points into defense matrix since that will allow you to get the 100% shield restore evo and the other benefits would be useless.

On another note, this was one example but fortification does apply with tech armor as well.

How did you calculate the effect DR? Is it 55% or 42% from the post above yours. And I heard somewhere that the max effective DR is 90%?

Took a value of 100 as an example damage value.

100 x .4 = 40  so 100-40 = 60

took the next DR value

60 x .25 = 15 so 40 + 15 = 55

thus 55 of 100 damage is being taken out thus 55%. His math works too but is just the reversed way mine worked.

Edit: what his math is saying is how much damage you're actually taking so for instance using his math he is using 40% DR of tech armor & 30% of defense matrix thus:

40% of 100 = 40 thus 100-40 = 60 and 60 displayed as a % to be used in math = .6
30% of 100 = 30 thus 100 - 30 = 70 and 70 displayed as a % to be used in math = .7

.6 x .7 = .42 thus you take 42% of the damage meaing its 58% DR.

Applied to my defense matrix having 25% DR

.6 x .75 = .45 thus 45% damage taken thus 55% DR.

In short

His math = damage taken
My Math = effective DR

You arrive at your answer either way.

It has been proven that damage reduction is ADDICTIVE as someone on multiplayer tesed it with a krogan sentinel had used the damage reduction from rage and tech armor and had taken pictures of the different levels of damage reduction ( 0%, 20% from rage, 40% from tech armor and 60% from both) from a single rocket from a rocket trooper and there was a flat line along the tip of shields left showing that damage reduction is addictive and he had found out the theoretical maximum to become invincible was 133% possible by having a batarian with full defensively blade armor heavy melee in a fully defensive biotic bubble (40% + 50% + 40% = 130%)
