Here is my greatest fear.

BioWare has been very vague on the LI questions.

BioWare is also very vague on the EMS issue. All they have really said is, "You no longer need 4000 EMS."

Okay, still with me?

That they took the easiest way out and totally removed the breath scene.  Image IPB

This
fear is why I will watch the EC before I play it. If that was their
solution I will not download the EC and just stick with my head-canon.

I sincerely hope that I am wrong.

I sincerely doubt Bioware could actually believe this would appease the fans. They know why we're angry, I think they would know this would actually make things better.

That being said, I'm apprehensive as well.

I'm pretty sure they said "You no longer need multiplayer to reach 4000 EMS".

You would assume so, but by the same token, they should have known how people would react to the current ending.

Chris Priestly said more than once that his ideal Shepard is without a LI, that's how he plays the game. Now that offcourse isn't how BioWare sees Mass Effect, I'm pretty sure Patrick Weekes (who called Tali "his waifu" once) and some other writer love the LI-thing, but I don't know if it'll be implemented in the EC.

They will probably focus on bigger things, like Galaxy rebuilding and how the Normandy escaped the wave (maybe even where the Normandy actually crushed). Which it's still a problem since a huge ending without human factor, as I said before, is not a huge ending.

But I'm hopeful, I'll wait. I wanted to see the EC unspoiled but since I'm a European PS3 owner I think I'll see it here on the forum since I'll have to wait until July 4th before playing it.

Unfortunately, he did.

I really doubt that they would remove the only option for Shepard to survive. That would royally ****** a lot of people off, I think.

I reckon if the breathing scenes gets removed, it's likely to be replaced by something that makes it equally clear that Shepard survives (if they survive).

I mean, we know Meer and Hale have recorded dialogue for the EC, so.

Since the EC kicks in as early as the Cerberus HQ mission, the fact that Meer and Hale have recorded dialogue doesn't mean that Shepard can survive the endings.

I really don't believe Bioware would retcon and remove Shepard's breathe scene. That tiny little sequence is what gives people hope about a decently happy ending and a reunion with the crew and LI. If Bioware remove that scene and makes Shepard die regardless of what you do, it will cause yet another (and probably even bigger) dramatic ****storm than before.

Bioware are walking on a minefield. They have to be careful. They lost a lot of fans and supporters after what they did to the ending. Many players cancelled their subscriptions to Star Was The old Republic in protest. Bioware's stock value dropped significantly. There uproar received a lot of attention from media. Bioware reputation has been darkly stained. Many other game companies have made fun of them for what they did, and I think they (the others) have learned a lesson of not how to treat their fans.

So yeah, I am sceptical about this Extended Cut. I am afraid it's only going to make things even worse.

No way they'll do that. First of all, there is also synthesis. You can only get synthesis in 4000. And there is also the control option to count here. And no way BioWare will take the one choice where Shepard gets to live. The only reason for them to remove the breath scene is to make a new one.

And they said that there are now other things that effect the outcome of the ending. They didn't state you don't need 4000 EMS IIRC. Even if it's true and you don't need 4000 EMS, you can get a good outcome from doing something else.

Killing Shep would be changing the ending. They already said they aren't doing that about 1,000 times. Artistic Integrity and all.

That is exactly what they stated:

I believe the EMS cap without playing MP lies somewhere around 3500. It is possible that he was trying to say you no longer need 4000 to get the best ending, but 3500 or even less.

Sure, but they would have to shove an entire box worth of crayons up their respective noses in order to think it's a good idea to remove the breath scene. And as Shaleist said, they've made it clear that they're not going to change the ending.

If the OP's fears actually turn out to be true, I'll laugh like I've never laughed before. However, I doubt it. Chris might have just meant that you don't need 4000 EMS to get the best endings.

They didn't care when they implemented the same broken ending for everyone... Everyone who read the script already said "lol, this will fail" and it did. With the "Mac Walters' Medal of Approval" on it.

They failed to see what people really want. I am of the opinion they still do. (of course I would be glad to be proven wrong here)
