In the grand scheme of things, without Reaper interference, the Quarians would've exterminated the Geth and reclaimed Rannoch by themselves.

Yeah, that's the sound of where  that particular argument went.

And what happens the next time someone creates synthetics that get out of control?

Yes kids it's that time again.

THE APPEAL TO PROBABILITY!

Now you too can base arguments on what might happen some day possibly, and act unilaterally based on that!

And your prize will be the murder of billions upon billions, per action.

Congratulations!

And you base your estimations on the probability that the Geth won't go out of control again. On the probability that some person, somewhere, won't create synthetics that turn on organics.

And what happened to her? Joker released her. He took a HUGE risk doing so. The next time someone does so, there's no guarantee the AI will be as thankful for doing so.

The Catalyst has been around for more than a billion years. The Geth have been around for 300. I'd say the Catalyst has more knowledge on the development of organic-synthetic relationships than any other being in the galaxy.

Considering, y'know, he virtually wiped out every piece of life before they could reach the apex of their conflict, right? He obviously knows more about how it'll end.

Of course it might not be good logic. But that logic is still true for the person having it. The Catalyst geniunely believes he does the right thing. If you had seen the same pattern emerge again and again and again for hundreds of millions of years, you'd assume the next cycle's synthetics would turn hostile too.

Logic is universal.

How many times will I have to repeat myself that the CYCLE WAS OF THE CATALYST'S DESIGN?

We find out, then. Or are you content with killing billions per cycle for an assumption?

The Zha shared your opinion. They got assimilated into the collective.

And the logic that preceeds the cycle is just as important as the cycle itself.

The Zha brought their pain upon themselves. Tell me, again, how that predicates the genocide of quadrillions over billions of years.

Of which, we know nothing beyond what we're told.

Furthermore, his logic--lack thereof--is contradicted by ours and nullified.

Not at all.  The logic of the cycle is based around historical evidence to the point where the cycle was enacted.  All cycles after that are irrelevent because of the cycle itself.

So, a self-fulfilling prophecy logical fallacy.

See, I get this point.  But it's not necessarily a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Here's the logic:

Problem:
Given enough time, Synthetic beings will destroy their creators.
The nature of the universe will cause other organics to evolve.
Newly evolved Organics will create synthetics.

Solution: Harvesting the Organic life before the synthetics can destroy them will preserve their DNA, allowing the race of Organics to "live on"

Method:Creating an infrastructure for their development will allow for a predictable evolutionary path.

Result:Organic life can be saved before annihilation.

Did you agree with Hitler's logic that the Jews should be wiped out, too?

No. I simply hold that billions do not deserve to die now because some robots might become a problem at some unknown time in the future for some unknown reason.

I just facepalmed again. This is probably the tenth time on this goddamn thread.

This is the very epitome of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Hitler wanted the jews gone. The Reapers want the species preserved in immortal shells in order to save them from complete annihilation.

No, his logic is not contradicted by ours.  We lack the context of his logic, which is why we don't understand it.

He presents an appeal to probability folks. That alone means he has nothing to contribute to the conversation.

As does anyone else who accepts his appeal to authority, yet another logical fallacy.

Does that matter to a computer that has the capability to preserve members of a species in near-indestructable constructs? No.

Let species evolve. Harvest species before being completely wiped out by synthetics. Store species in huge memory banks to ensure their legacy lives on. Civilization saved. New species are free to evolve. Repeat Cycle. Everyone wins.

That would make sense to a computer working with the information that created will always turn on their creators. Is that cool by organic standards? Hell no. But to the cold calculus of a computer it would be.

The Reapers don't believe they're cleansing the galaxy, they believe they're preserving everyone in it.

Funny how that works.

He's also in a loop. Information wise.

No accounting for feedback loops in accordance to a hyperbolic growth curve. Ahem.

You're missing the point, sweetheart.

Oh, and that preservation? That's why they mercilessly kill--I mean utterly destroy--billions every cycle, right?

There's nothing to argue, Erix.

That's the point.
