Basically every given pack has it's own unique variable, and every hour has it's own unique variable. While you could use a standard normal table for the entire community, you can't give a consistant veriable to any individual pack. While you can give a mean and expected value for the community as a whole, each pack has it's own random variable. Which would give you a free floating market place.

So basically no matter what you do, cross your fingers cause you never know where the market is at. Because it seems the market is based on pathological distribution. It's real cumualtive but each pack is probably more representative of pathological. And now my head hurts because it has been way to long sense I have had to think of any of this ####.

It would make you an idiot if you couldnt responsibly afford it, and were hurting your financial situation to gamble on some packs.

But if your finances are secure, and the few dollars wouldnt even register, then it would really be soley down to how you feel about gambling.

If you need to pay to get fun out of the game that you've already paid for then something is wrong.
Personally, I think the more people use micro-transactions, the more devs we're turning into ****s who just want our money - not to provide a fun experience in their game.
We keep this up for a couple of years and playing games will turn into a job rather than a fun time.

You have a lot to either unlock or upgrade, so it would probably be worth it as each pack would, more than likely, give you something worth it. The more you unlock and he more you have maxed out, it becomes less and less worth it to spend real money as the rng will just spam more and more redundant character cards.

i think its just fine to spend like 10-20$ if you havent leveled online yet.

personally i did a 40$ or so chunk of packs right before finally moving on from my solitary 130 N7 to playing in gold.

How much costs 2 hours of a movie ?
How much time will you spend on the character and weapons you unlocked with your 20 bucks ?

20 bucks is nothing. You pay that amount for two adults to see a crappy movie that you will never see again. Its the entertainment factor. I don't see why people call other people names for this.

I have played with quite a few people who have spend a lot of money on packs. Assuming they have been playing the game from day 1 like I have, here is the difference between not buying any packs (me) and buying a ton of packs:

0 packs purchased: Javelin 2, Talon 6, Scorpion 4, Saber 3, Black Widow 4, Wraith 4, Paladin 3, Harrier 2, Indra 5. Everything else except for the new Gear equipment is maxed out.

mucho packs purchased: Everything maxed out.

Spend money if you want a better chance of unlocking all the URs before the game becomes unpopular. Or if you're a new player I suppose it might be nice to get your uncommons and rares filled out rather quickly. Otherwise, it's pointless.

By paying for these packs you are funding the free DLC, so no you are not stupid, spend away so we don't have to.

Seriously, people need to stop paying for microtransactions in games they've already paid for. Otherwise in ten years every in-game store is just gonna cost real money because the companies think they can get away with it.

You would make the game slightly more profitable and thus contribute to the game remaining free to play, so, go ahead.

Here's where I'm at: The Extended Cut's coming out real soon, and to fully enjoy that, I'm gonna need high Galactic Readiness, which I've let go down for a few weeks. This means I'll have to play quite a bit of Multiplayer, which is bound to get dull fast. What would make it not dull, though, is if I was able to use the class I was wanting to play for a long time but could never get; the Vorcha.

What I was planning on doing was spending around $20.00 on BioWare points, and buying several Premium Spectre packs with them. If I don't get it at that point, so be it,but still, the odds are pretty decent. However, most people feel like, more or less, if you spend money on MP you're a complete idiot.

So, given the situation, would it be dumb?

It's never dumb in itself. It's your money, you can do with it whatever you want. Buy videogames, donate them to charity, burn it or spend it on PSPs. However if you start complaining afterwards that you didi not get what you expected, you will be called dumb.

If you only want to buy it to get your readiness up, you will be called dumb with some justification as well. It does not matter on which difficulty level you play to get your readiness up. With the starter weapons and classes and a bit of practice you should be able to beat bronze.

Why do you care what people think lol

Because people tend to have a point.

No, they don't.  what's right for them, maybe, but they have no business telling others.  I really abhor those that try to inflict their values on others.  Do what you want.

It's your money, and you can spend it how you want. If you have enough extra cash that you can spend it on ME3 MP packs, good for you, and go right ahead.

If you have money to burn, and you want to, why not?

Do so in the knowledge that you are paying real world money, for entirely random virtual stuff that you can quite easily get by just playing the game, which should be fun any way.

Personally I couldn't bring myself to do that, it just seems silly to me, and even thought a few quid for a PSP is hardly going to break the bank i'd always be thinking "I could be spending this money on an indie game on XBLA" or whatever, and that indie developer will appreciate my 120 ms points more than EA and Bioware will. Even if I spend my money on a pizza it seems better than spending actual money on randomly generated virtual content.

I'll never call you an idiot, but I can't get my head round it.

Because most of those people couldn't get 20 bucks from their mom.  When you're young, you have all the time in the world to waste playing games.  For older people, time can be more valuable than money.

This is how I go about spending money on video games and I think it makes a lot of sense:

"Is it worth $XXX for me to buy X game, X DLC, X in-game item, X subscription? Do I feel like I will be getting my $XXX worth of entertainment out of it?"

If the answer is yes, go for it and never think twice about it.

I'll give you a silly example. When I started playing my first ever MMO I was of the opinion that playing games based on monthly fee was kind of dumb. I was wrong. The 15 dollars a month was well worth the hours of fun I had with it. Sitting in a pub drinking a couple of beers for a couple of hours will cost you the same or more. Stay home 1 night. get a monthly subscription. Seems like a fair trade.
