 Just noticed we don't have an entry here, or if we do the search function didn't find it.

Basic points:
- Setting is Planescape (pre-faction war)
- It helps if you know something about the Planescape setting, but you can always play as a Prime (the Clueless) the first time and suffer IC insults from the Planars (bloods, berks, and cutters alike).
- We try and encourage players to join Factions and make Faction based RP (and have a faction badge and points system to help with this), but most players find factions difficult to understand, so not a requirement in any way.
- No Kaedrin's. We do have our own customizations though although mainly additions rather than remove things.
- No build restrictions. We care more about how people RP their characters than arbitrary restrictions.
- PvP via consent only.
- Perma-death only via consent
- Fairly fast levelling (if in a party and you know what you are doing)
- RP server but with plenty of opportunity to grind - we have a full array of players from solid grinders to pure RPers.
- No muling (transferring items between characters), one of our stronger rules.  Please familiarise yourself with the rules before playing. We try not to be complete hardasses over thing and handle rule breaking with tact and diplomacy if possible.  People abusing exploits can get hit with the banhammer though.
- Relevelling is possible.
- Adult content/activities are allowed, but it should be kept private and out of sight.
- Special Races are available upon request (providing you have a good reputation on the server and have been playing for at least 3 weeks and a DM will vouch for your RP ability)
- Players have the ability to make their own events and gain temporary accecss to the DM client subject to rules and restrictions (called EMs - Event Masters). A very good reputation is usually required before we will grant this as it requires a high level of trust.
- DMs are not very active on the event front compared with many servers.  The EMs though do make up for this somewhat.

 I thought it might be nice to highlight some of the custom changes we have made to our server over the years.  Its not a comprehensive list, and missing some of the stuff that went on early, but this is mainly covered in the general info above.


Coming Soon(ish)

Two "kits" (think like 2nd Edition Kits) for Barbarians each giving access to different feats - Totem Feats which improve combat ability in Rage, and Tribal Feats which give more non-combat or support bonuses in Rage.

SIGIS (In game newspaper) - ability to submit articles and read the news.

Existing


Spawns and Drops

Rare random item drops of varying power with customized names and descriptions and properties that may not be enchanted or found on other items.

Selectable difficulty setting for grinding - if in a party, every member must set the same difficutly level or else
spawns revert to default.

Random "elite" spawns

Set items

Classes
No arbritary build resrictions. Its the RP that counts, not the amount of cheese you can put into a build.

No restrictions on Cleric Domains.  Again, its the RP that counts.

Improvements to Genasi native abilities

Sacred Fist fix allowing Wildshape Druid (or any polymorph) to not recieve penalty for using creature weapons if have levels of SF.

Bronze Dragon Wildshape available in addition to the evil forms.

Druid Background Feats allowing different wildshape forms if you take one of the special Druid backgrounds at level 1 (so must take Druid on level 1)

Ability for Druids to take Creature Weapon Feats (as required) once Wildshape is achieved (presuming any other requirements are met). Eg: Weapon Spec (Creature Weapon) can be taken with 5 Levels of Druid and 4 Levels of Fighter

Mystic Theurge Class - allows combining any two casting classes. The class name is a bit misleading, as it is meant to represent the multitude of dual caster PrCs in the sourcebooks.


Races

Quite a few custom races (Bladeling, Orc races, ogres, gnolls) avaialble for anyone to select

Race restrictions lifted on Red Wizard, Dwarven Defender (became Stalward Defender from Pathfinder), and Arcane Archer - Planescape contains an infinite number of worlds, race restrictions on classes make little sense.

Ability to request to make a SRR (Special Race Request) - play as a devil or demon or whatever - subject to approval.

Spells
Custom Summons for all caster classes - many Planescape oriented. Ranger and Bard summons increased in strength to match the level you get the spell at.

Sneak attack on touch spells - (Own implementation, not player1's or Reeron's)

Many spells that work on weapons can now work on creature weapons (including for example summons with creature weapons)

Quite a few new spells, modifications to existing spells.

Planescape Faction
Faction Badges, allowing a number of functions including letting others know which faction you belong to and sending calls for help. 

Can also be used to summon a faction NPC for RP or combat, or create a faction specific placeable or two. - especially useful to summon a henchman if you have to grind solo at very low levels.

NPCs and related

Hireable waiters - if you are planning a party, you need someone to serve food and drinks.

NPC Remote control (own NPCs only) - control their movement and facing and also equip them with items

Wide range of hireable henchmen, including Faction based ones, Mechs, thugs, demons, and creatures.

Crafting/Enchanting

Custom Crafting (special materials as well) and Enchanting. Crafted Throwing Weapons can be worth it.

Ability to craft most throwing weapons and ammo without a workbench - no worries about running out of such in the middle of an extended grind.

Custom Poisons - increased duration on poisons applied to weapons by 1 min per level of Blackguard or Assassin (20 mins extra max).  Poisons now decent to use

Custom Grenades - make things go boom!  Or drop a smoke bomb to make a quick getaway, or drop caltrops to slow enemies.

Craftable traps given a boost. All types available up to epic level traps. Have care handling them though!

Skills

Perform is a cross class skill (for RP, still useless for non-bards otherwise).

Sleight of Hand disabled against PCs.

Misc features

User Placeables and display wares chests. Also placeable crafting stations for certain Factions.  Display Chests are non-lootable and contain copies of items stored in a container in your inventory.

Ability to turn off/on autosave on transition (to avoid autosave killing buffs on shapechanged characters)

Ability to set character description on the fly in game

Planar currency purhasable from NPC (still needs converting back into gold if using with NPCs, but good for immersion and inter-character trade)

Tattoos (various bonuses and buffs) - only 1 per characterChanges of alignment outside of that which is allowed by your class(es) will result in most class abilties being disabled.

Purchasable Polymorphs.. feel like becoming a wolf for a bit?

Ability to send automatic replies to tells - useful when AFK or can't respond to tells

If you have never played Triple Triad it could be hard to follow, especially on the compressed video as its hard to see the numbers and stuff.

The rules screen explains some things, and ill include an in-game book or convo that explains the basics.

If you never played Final Fantasy 8, then you will never have wasted hours and hours trying to build up a full set of cards :D

Hi all, would just like to spread the news.

 

The re-invigoration of the server is going well.

 

First off two EMs (Event Masters) stepped up to take on DM responsibilities (Selebius and Midnight).  An old DM has also become more active (LiquidDreamer).  On top of this, some events from other EMs have been run with new ones in the making.  Plenty of ad-hoc events along with a few with overarching plots.  They range from faction based to non-faction based.  Most are with low to no combat, requiring brains and diplomacy to handle, although there are occasional events for those who like to bash things.

 

This means a lot more events occurring now on a regular basis which is great news for players.

 

Player numbers, while still low compared to the top servers, are generally speaking up, with several new regular members as well and a couple of returning players.

 

In development news, the real work has started on adding new races as befits the cosmopolitan melting pot that is Sigil.

 

First race is done, the Azer! (note, all new races will go in together when finished, so some months away yet, there are around 50!!!!)

What is the LA for a Gauth, and what does the "No Manual Dexterity" racial ability do? I'm curious about the ability because they do have the telekinesis ray, which would seem like a possible substitute for the lack of hands, using telekinetic manipulation.

LA not decided, i'm leaving LA until the end due to some quiet heated debate on the topic.

 

The No Manual Dexterity is there for both IC and OOC reasons.  Some races are without hands, and therefore cannot wield weapons normally. Also there are some races that technically could wield weapons, but they either shouldn't, or their models look bad wielding them.  For example, the blade golem, if you put a weapon in its hand you see the blade hand and the weapon at the same time, instead the blade golem will get a creature weapon for its "blade" that will have decent base damage to compensate that there will be no "material" to bypass DR, which is substantial on our server.

 

Basically any time a character with this feat tries to wield anything in either hand it will instantly be unequipped.

 

The telekenesis ray is unfortunately simply a knockdown effect.  However, there is nothing to stop players RPing the use of the ray to make RP effects based off its PnP description.

We have a new admin: Darkrob

 

Darkrob is a long time player who was DM and Admin on at least one NWN1 server and has been a long time player on SCoD, actively driving roleplay player side.

 

I dare say there are quite a few veteran players of PWs out there who have come across this titan of Neverwinter Nights in the past (for better or for worse :D )

51 new races coming to SCoD in the next week or two... stay peeled for further updates!

 

In game competition held with the question: How would you roleplay a LA 12 Paeliryon? Two players received 1000 XP for providing cool answers.  After all, LA12 is an absolute killer for grinding, even with the bonuses the Paeliryon will get.

Woo! I can also say that Sigil became popular again after the update.

As of the writing of this post, BGTSCC is first, Dalelands second and Sigil third from the RP servers, which is awesome.

This is what Sigil really needed, in my opinion. LOTS of weird races that are not just "RPed" with templates and class levels but actual races with actual models.

Plus the first server that officially supports Werewolves and Vampires or other undead, from the beginning and with mechanics behind them.

This is one of the things that make the Planescape setting special. A nymph, a demon and a Djinni hanging around together in a bar.

I would also like to see the Half-Celestial officially implemented, a Half-Fiend race and a Fey'ri or other planar subraces of common races.
Like the Wispling (fiendish halflings) or Half-Golem/Construct races. Maybe a Dryad too.

Great job guys. As long as you keep updating the server and adding cool new stuff that cannot be found anywhere else, the server will stay alive. Staleness is a bad thing for servers or not listening to the community.

Yeah, those races are up for consideration in a future update.  However, i have a much more pressing concern at the moment, with the increased population the whole economy of the server needs a good kick up the ass, so thats where my focus is going to be next.

 

Another good side effect of the increased population is a couple of builders have returned, both of whom are good with areas and scripting, so we may see more areas soon as well along with a few new features that they are contributing.

 

As for a nymph, a demon, and a djinn walking into a bar... there has to be a joke in there somewhere!

Yesterday saw the release of the Gatecrasher PrC for our server.

Also the addition of a new grinding area set in Mechanus.

 

Also numerous bug fixes and changes based off our own ideas and player requests.

 

Some additional bug fixes related to new content will be made today.

 

Also, a week ago, we changed Rangers and Paladins to be full casters, and they gain their spells earlier (from level 1) and more of them.

 

Like the sound of any of this? If so, come and play.

New feature added yesterday.  Ever spent ages customizing a piece of armour, then 5 minutes later gone grinding and found a superior set, so you groan inside that you now have to customize your new item?

 

Well, now there is a guy in the Festhall who will take two armours, take the appearance of one, and the properties from another, and merge them into a new set.  The originals are both lost, so if your item with the appearance had properties, wave goodbye to them.  But at least you don't have to rework your new set.

Today we saw quite a few updates.

 

The Elemental Plane of Fire. Care to travel to the City of Brass?

 

The Quasi-Elemental Plane of Salt.  Best go prepared, or be desiccated as dry as a bone.

 

A new OOC room, that really gives that Planescape feel!

 

New Psionic heritage feats.

 

Xaltar's head pack and v3par's Dwarven Beards.

Today we added new races and classes.

 

Races are: Half-Celestial and Half-Fiend - two major races that were not included in the big race update in the Summer.

 

And Classes: Samurai, Kensai, and Ronin.

Fey'ri would also be nice. I've seen people wanting to play Fey'ri on other servers and just RPed it or used tails and wings.

Fey'ri could come at some point, although as you point out, easy enough to RP with a Tiefer.  And adding Fey'ri also opens the door to things like quicklings and other stuff being requested.

 

I'm focusing on Classes for the moment, but maybe another builder will consider it.

Thing is, the Fey'ri are elven/fiend-blooded. Tieflings wouldn't work so people take elven races and get wings and tails.
But of course stats, horns etc are missing.

And I've seen people RPing Fey'ri with elves on Sigil, so it seems a popular race.

Any new stuff is always nice. :)

This is some serious fast progress on the updates. Good job loki, and all your team. If I had time I would come to see what's what... but my own work takes up almost all time. But I'm happy you get more players. I love planescape, and even if I don't play on PW I really wanted this server to continue.
