The first of the magisters, the one that contact the old god dumat and learned blood magic from him, The Tevinter magisters of modern times look up to him, revere him. The Dalish and many among the city elves dispise him, hate him and desecrate his statues. But the story that non in thedas today know - the ironic and dark truth the elves would rather not hear is this.
Any child born between human and elf is born as human, this they know - but they do not know it was initially the ambitious parents of Archon Thalsian that created this through their magic... Originally only the elves could weild magic, the humans could not possess it at all. And so Thalsians parents created an elven child in the image of a human. Tevinter was only a young nation then and some among the elves wished to influence it, control it. But the leaders of Arlathan forbid them having anything to do with humans to avoid them and so Archon Thalsian the Elf with the appearence of a human would be their answer.
He used his magic, a gift only elves could weild to take control of the Kingdom of Tevinter and forged into into an empire. The Tevinter Imperium - He then however done the unexpected to those who had dreams for him, he turned on his own kind and he conquered Arlathan to expand his new empire. He mastered the depths of blood magic and tamed the demons and dragons alike.
