Mattock IX for power-heavy classes. It's light enough to not give much of a cooldown and useful at all ranges.
Claymore for Infiltrators.
Sabre for just about everybody else.

I never use combos, I tend to favor carrying a single weapon and rushing for crates. I really don't see the point having more than 1 weapon, on any classes. It slows power uses, and even for weapon classes (ex: HI), spaming power is more important than anything

Most of the time you should only bring one weapon. But in certain cases when you don't have to worry at all about cooldowns (like Krogan Soldier w/ no points in Carnage), carry one long range and one short range gun. I like going with the Saber and Claymore.

Most of my classes, I use a Phalanx X as the secondary with a EB and AP mod. Rate of fire makes up for the loss in power I would get from heavier pistol with a slower fire rate.

On the Phoenix Adept, I usually run with a Reegar/Carnifex combo (both X) after taking the shotgun/pistol weight reduction. The Reegar is for finishing things fast in Smash-range emergencies. The Carnifex helps on hack objectives or other times you can't be in Smash-range all the time. It also gives you a bit of utility on open maps when you do random maps.

On GI it is Javelin/Krysae if you have it and Claymore.

Honestly my main weapon combos are mainly about effective range & clip size/reload time. If my main weapon is a slow long range oriented weapon like the Widow I prefer to carry a Tempest as a close range option for better crowd control.
