My questions this time around are:

"Do you feel there is a good range of weaponry to choose from?"

On Bronze and Silver, yes. On lower difficulties there is a good range of weaponry that feels and behaves differently. Some are underpowered/overpowered and therefore the mix is a little dilluted even there, but on a whole there is enough of a variety to keep things interesting.

On Gold, all I hear is how this weapon and that weapon are useless and how using this or that will get you kicked from the game instantly.

"Do you feel there is a weapon that fills every niche and level?"
(e.g. - From low: "Give this weapon to the rookie so he doesn't hurt him/herself or anyone else for that matter" to High: "This weapon makes things go away just by its mere presence on the battlefield", and everything in between)

Carnifex: High damage, great accuracy, decent rate of fire. This thing is more effective than the Viper, especially since the the mechanic that halves the damage if fired from the hip makes the Viper vastly inferior to Carnifex.

That being said, please don't nerf it. The problem isn't that the Carnifex is better, it's that the other weapons are inferior. The Viper doesn't do enough damage or have a fast enough fire rate to compare to say, the Valiant, for instance.

EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that this question was about whether there are weapons to fill every niche, not if there is a particular weapon that fits every niche. So with this new criteria, yes I think so. There are hard hitting weapons (Claymore, Widow, Javelin, Saber, Paladin), fast firing weapons (Hurricane), high accuracy weapons (Phaeston), low-accuracy-hard-hitting (Hurricane, Revenant), all-around (starting weapons).

"With the above questions in mind, which is your favourite weapon overall?" I am not asking which you think is the "best", only which one do you simply like to play with most of all.

Cheers!

Claymore. Everything about it is awesome to me. The high damage can let me oneshot grunts, the rhythm of firing it, the accuracy and even the sound it makes are perfect!

1. Yeah, but SMG's could use a little help to offset the penalty against armor.  They could also use a little more diversity and would be more compelling as a secondary weapon if ULM worked as intended.

2. No.

3. Most fun? Revenant.

[edit: Re-read the question.  My answers were wrong]

"Do you feel there is a good range of weaponry to choose from?"
Yes but a lot of them don't fit very well with caster classes which I most often play cause of the weight reducing power cooldowns.
Biggest problem is being able to unlock this great range. If you don't play a lot of gold matches it can take a while to unlock things with the store rng meaning you may not get to try that really awesome gun before it gets nerfed to death in the weekly balance changes.

"Do you feel there is a weapon that fills every niche and level?"
I'd say mostly yes. There are a few that seem require a higher skill level to use successfully that fit more with classes that don't rely so much on powers. The weapons that are lighter weight and better for use on caster classes don't always do a lot of damage but that probably balances out overall.

"With the above questions in mind, which is your favourite weapon overall?"
Carnifex - my favourite go to gun for everyone really. Good for casters cause it's not too heavy once you get a couple of upgrades for it and the damage is pretty good.
Falcon - I've just started using this over the weekend and I'm getting to like it. Probably not the best gun and it's heavier than I'd like on a caster class but it's been fun to use on my quarian female engineer.
GPS - I would be using this gun quite a bit but I can't seem to unlock any upgrades for it. I'm not a big fan of shotguns cause of the short range on them but this one does allow me to hang back and still have some fun.

1. Yes, although not every weapon is balenced to its full capacity. Assault rifles need to be buffed overall.

2. Pretty much. Again though, if assault rifles were buffed then even more niches would be filled.

3. Hard to pick just a few. Falcon, carnifex, mattock, hurricain, valient, GPS, and claymore are the first to come to mind.

"Do you feel there is a good range of weaponry to choose from?"

Definitely. I really like that many of the weapons are not just copies of each other with different dmg/rof, but their whole behavior is different (scorpion, graal, reegar, falcon, crusader, gps, etc) which enables even more variety in playstyles. Sure, not all of them are well-balanced, but even those are definitely fun to play with.

"Do you feel there is a weapon that fills every niche and level?"

No, but it'd be the carnifex if not for the newer guns which are much better in terms of dps - and it's still not bad. Before the new guns and a couple carnifex changes were introduced, it had the best dps/weight ratio while being quite accessible. With its decent sustained and burst dps, low weight, good ammo capacity, nothing could even come close to it as a caster weapon and it wasn't bad for shooters either.

"With the above questions in mind, which is your favourite weapon overall?"

For fun: Graal. No contest; nothing beats shooting stuff full of huge spikes. Also the Revenant, because dakka-dakka-dakka-dakka.
For serious business: Carnifex, for the above mentioned reasons; Scorpion, because it's the next great caster weapon; Hornet, because it's the new go-to light weapon; Reegars, because it just tears sh*t up (also, ghostbusters)

1. Debatable. There is currently one really effective AR, one(maybe two if you can get the wraith leveled up) effective shotguns, and no really effective SMG's.  Most people select weapons based on weight, not on hitting power.  There need to be more AR's in the Rare and Ultra rare area, and an Ultra Rare SMG.

2. No, but the problem is certainly being addressed. Before the Rebellion DLC, the Assault Rifle was easily the least used weapon class. Lets be honest the Sabre is not a real AR, it's a sniper rifle sans a scope.  The Harrier was the first major change to this trend.  Right now in the UR slot, there are THREE sniper rifles (one of which is genuinely useful on gold), THREE pistols (all of which are useful), Two AR slots (both are useful, but one is not really an AR), and a single shotgun (which is widely considered to be the most useless hunk of scrap in the UR group).  There are no SMG's.  The Harrier allowed soldiers to be soldiers, which was really important.  To balance things out, you need to add one more UR assault rifle, two new UR shotguns, and THREE UR SMG's, just for the sake of symmetry.

3. The Cerberus Harrier.  It feels, acts, and hits like a real Assault Rifle.  It is well placed in it's UR slot for the damage it can deal.  There needs to be a lot more weapons like this, trying to fill the actual function of the weapon at a UR damage dealing level.

1) Yes

2) I miss automatic shotguns - Reegar doesn't count as it doesn't feel like a shotgun. (The delay of pulling the trigger and actually firing is killing me)

3) I really use a variety, once a thing gets old, I'm trying a different one. On Gold I often end up using Disciple/Eviscerator and Falcon.

A good range: Yes, except when it comes to smg's.
A weapon for every niche: Yes, it's pretty much covered. But a automatic shotgun(like a H&K CAW) would be nice (something heavy, with lower damage per shot but faster and with more rounds).
Favourite weapon: The Harrier. But I mostly use the Claymore, Krysae and Carnifex since those guns are a bit better than everything else at what they do.

There's tons of guns, but not many that are useful. Assault Rifles and Smgs specifically.

"Do you feel there is a weapon that fills every niche and level?"
Sure they sorta fit there but some just dont fit anywhere. Phaeston and Locust for example.
"With the above questions in mind, which is your favourite weapon overall?"
Harrier for sure

1) There are a good range of weapons, except SMGs. That said, on Gold, Shotguns are the only set where it feels like there is a decent amount of actual choice, rather than one or two optimal choices you should use if you have them.

2) There are a few. Sniper rifles: Valiant (even at level 1!), Krysae. Pistols: the Carnifex. Shotguns: the Geth Plasma Shotgun's mixture of firepower, armor bypassing, and accuracy render it an ideal choice, so long as lag isn't too bad and you aren't shooting for a 200% recharge rate.

3) Unsurprisingly, my most used weapons at this moment are the Carnifex, GPS, and Valiant (or Black Widow, depending on how I feel). My favorite is the Scimitar, which is unfortunately close to useless on Gold.

Yes and no - for the most part, automatic/rapidifre weapons are hurt too much by the effects of armour, with the saving grace for (most) shotguns being the ability to "bypass" shieldgate. However amongst the more useful weapons, there is a great deal of variety and adaptability to differing roles.

Yes - the Krysae.

...

I kid, I kid :P - I'd go for yes, but I don't play every niche so I couldn't possibly say. There's certainly one for every role I play - and it's not always the Carnifex! :D

The Mattock <3
It may not be the weapon I use the most.
It may not be the most effective weapon I have.
It may have a better alternative in the Harrier.
But you know what? I <3 my Mattock!

Because of armor's damage reduction, I feel like there's really no place in the game for light, fast weapons. This goes double for SMGs because they have no piercing mod. Just bring a single cannon, and leave the rest at home. Here's my solution.

As for a weapon for every niche and level: I really feel like a good burst assault rifle is missing. I like the feel of the Vindicator and used it on my Adept in singleplayer, but in multiplayer, its just too weak for any class to use past the first several waves of bronze.

Generally, I like that there are lots of weapons with different firing modes. That makes them different. The Revenant is fast and full auto, but not accurate. The Shuriken and Hornet are burst SMGs -- one common and one rare. And so on.

What I don't like are spammy semi-automatic weapons like the Predator and Mattock. It's just too much clicking. A "cannon" semi-auto is fine, like a bolt-action sniper rifle or the Carnifex and Paladin pistols. Perhaps a cannon assault rifle is missing? I'm not sure the Falcon counts.

Ideally, I would want to see a mixture of firing modes in both uncommon and rare tiers for all weapon classes so that we can use whatever "feel" we like.

And I really, really want more racial bonuses for weapons types, like the Geth get.

And I want some more laser guns. Pew pew pew!

"Do you feel there is a good range of weaponry to choose from?"

Well, whilst I feel that there is a great range of weapons, all diverse and well thought out, the way that the weapon balance changes with difficulty is certainly a big concern of mine. By this I mean that there are guns you can take out and have fun with in bronze, and do very well with, but are pretty much useless on gold except for inflicting ammo effects. This is because of the increase in armoured high health enemies on gold - these enemies often pose the greatest threat, but only certain weapons are effective in damaging them. I have no problem with this, as the weapons are intended to be more effective against certain enemy types, but it is a problem that weapon and class type on gold is determined mostly with this in mind. Assault rifle and SMG's especially suffer against these enemies(some exceptions like the hurricane), whilst not really gaining any advantage over other weapon types over other enemies on gold, a sniper, shotgun, or strong heavy pistol user is still mostly more effective against un-shielded targets due to higher burst damage. the sheild gate mechanic does mean that AR's and SMG's can continue to damage enemies, but there really isnt much difference in time between holding down an AR's trigger and just shooting the mook one extra time, whilst still retaining the advantage over armored targets. The only advantage to using an AR or SMG is sustained fire, the ability to spray down multiple enemies. This is limited however on gold. My proposal would be to introduce some waves that pit the players against multiple low health targets simultaneously, it needn't be easy either - fast and close respawns keep them coming, and the goal could be to survive for two whole minutes with them coming thick and fast, or to reach a set number of kills within the time limit.

AR's and SMG's will become very useful providing their health is low enough - and the high burst damage weapons will suddenly become less effective at repelling the oncoming horde. That high scoring infiltrator with a widow that has been taking out brutes and banshees with his cloak bonus suddenly takes a back seat to the soldier weilding a revenant instantly reloading with Ad rush that downs them before he can get a second shot off. Random group enemy spawns keep it fresh and stops players strategically camping spawn points and makes it much more dangerous(not too far away though as they need to be a constant supply for the idea to work to its fullest potential.)

Introducing this doesn't just balance full auto weapons, and increase class diversity and viability on gold, but it also greatly improves power balance too - powers like singularity and shockwave are now very very useful compared to warp and reave, cryo blast is a lifesaver, turret powers are defending your flanks, distracting mobs and dishing out damage like they really should - and the Asari bubble is no longer ignored by your team mates as they bunker down against the waves of husks, or troopers. Weaker faster firing pistols, snipers and shotguns also are more desirable too, yet again adding to class diversity

I believe that by adding a few waves similar to this, or any with high enemy volume with low health will improve balance tenfold. Its not perfect, but I hope it give you guys some ideas.

"Do you feel there is a weapon that fills every niche and level?"

I think that with the above changes there will be a weapon to fill every niche and level (to a point), there will of course always be some weapons that perform better, or still need some working on - for instance the incisor feels very weak even on bronze, and a valiant or widow feel like they completely outclass it respectively in power and ability to take out multiple targets fast. as long as the way the difficulty levels stay balanced as they are, burst damage will always take precedence over classes specializing in weapon damage, and lighter pistols/SMG's for caster classes. The above changes hopefully will introduce hybrid classes that can cast powers and focus on weapons fire, calling for the middle of the range weapons to be used, those that pack a little less punch but allow a bit more recharge time on your powers, or those with specific effects like stun and damage over time.

"With the above questions in mind, which is your favourite weapon overall?"

I love unique weapons, the Kishock is one of my favourites - partly because it is effective on every class as it is so damaging, but it is also balanced by taking more skill to hit the enemy, and time to charge your shots. The claymore, because with reload cancelling it means that my level 1 character can dish some damage even without having any weapon damage upgrades or powers to use. I love the Hurricane, Valiant, Crusader and Eagle because of how different they are. I like the Arc pistol for the same reason. I want to like a lot of weapons, but when they struggle to be useful in most situations it is hard to get attached, like the Incisor, shuriken, GPR, scimitar etc. A few balance fixes and again, my proposed changes and they could become new favourites. Increasing the fir erate and speed of the incisor for example would keep its uniqueness, and allow players to kill enemies much more effectively whilst having the bonus against sheild-gate - the guns mainstay.

I could go on, but that is detracting from the main purpose of the thread. The point is, the more balanced the game is, the more diversity, and the greater the variety of favourite weapons.

At this moment in time the valiant is prob my top weapon. Does serious damage even to heavy hitters!

For s@"ts & giggles the Graal is just plain awesome, letter boxing from medium range is a hoot:)

1) No, not really I found myself using the same weapons over and over.  Most weapons I don't even bother using because they seem useless when playing harder settings.
2)Yes
3) Tie between Mattock and Carnifex
---
Why hasn't the N7 Valkyrie, AT-12 Raider , Chakram Launcher, N7 Valkyrie, M-55 Argus been added yet?  They would be a great addition.  Also the Collector Rifle really should be added. Its a little annoy that only way the weapon can be upgraded is by buying items that contain the dlc code.

There are a few good weapons, but so many bad ones.

I'd probably only pick about 6 weapons over all classes.

guns I think are great are: Valiant, claymore, phalanx, paladin, harrier and hurricane. The rest are pretty take it or leave it.

The assault rifles are all pretty bad for higher tier games bar the harrier, but even that has such a limited ammo supply that the amount of good one can do with it is limited.

Theoretically, yes. In practice, the choices are pretty limited if you want to be effective.

"Do you feel there is a weapon that fills every niche and level?"
Yes, there is A weapon that might fill every niche and level. Hardly more than that.

SMG) I find that the only decent SMGs are Hornet/Hurricane and one of them is rare to come by so it shouldn't count. The fact that the ultralight mods don't work doesn't help.

Snipers) For infiltrators, the introduction of the Krysae killed all other snipers. Valiant, Widow, Black Widow are way more fun to play, but not as effective as the Krysae.

"With the above questions in mind, which is your favourite weapon overall?"
Valiant, Carnifex, Widow, Black Widow, Hurricane, Graal. Harrier and Paladin.

I think there is a good range of weapons to choose from, but balance issues make certain weapons dominant. (Claymore/BW/Valiant/Krysae Infiltrators).

There's certainly a range of weapons from pathetically weak (Locust) to absurdly strong (Reegar), but I don't think that these weapons are spread out properly to make different playstyles viable.  The Hurricane is the only worthwile SMG.  I know they're sort of a caster's weapon, but a heavy pistol (other than the Eagle) will outclass an SMG other than the Hurricane on any class.  Heavy pistols have similar weight (especially with ULM still broken), but better range, accuracy, and damage, especially to armored targets.

PS. I would love a longe range beam type weapon that destroys shields and synthetics, but is weak against armor and organics.

My favorite weapon is probably the Carnifex.

I like the selection of weapons. SOME i wish weren't there, simply due to me not seeing a point in them...or that they don't fit in their class/tier. However...SMG's...not very many to choose from...and they're all mostly the same...peashooters...

There could be some better Assault Rifles though, the ones we have ARE good...but there aren't any that are accurate, fast, AND powerful...I'm talking a low recoil, three round burst rifle...and by burst i mean three shots in and extremely quick interval.

Personal Favorite two of the 5 types?
SR: WIdow, Black Widow
AR: Geth Pulse Rifle, Revenant
Shotty: Claymore, Graal Spike Thrower
SMG: Locust, Geth Plasma SMG <- Don't really like any...but those two are the only ones i found even viable...
Pistol: Talon, Eagle

I'll try reverse psychology :

The best weapon all around is, by far ... very far, the EAGLE !
Which is normal since it is a N7 reward and very few will ever get it to 10 !
