Graal X now and forever
there are a ton of rare guns that are crap, though. (crap guns are defined as not better than the default starting weaponry)

2. Yes
3. I love the Locust, its a shame that it just seems so weak for MP use. I'll just stick with my second favorite, Carnifex.

Excellent range to choose from. But will never say no if you want to make more new ones.
"Do you feel there is a weapon that fills every niche and level?"
Depends on what you consider niche/level. The Ultra-Rares are still nowhere like "This weapon makes things go away just by its mere presence on the battlefield"... only the Cobra does that in the game.
I feel auto-fire weapons (ARs and SMGs) have a void at the higher levels... they just aren't very good generally compared to shotguns/snipers/pistols.
What I'd like to see is some niche in-game only "heavy" weapons... like the special weapons in single-player. Just something that appears on the map that a player can pick up. Switch to a different weapon, and you drop it. Once you run out of ammo, its useless.
"With the above questions in mind, which is your favourite weapon overall?"
Growing to love it more and more, especially as it gets leveled up more, the Wraith.

Regular Widow (when using SI); Claymore for HS; Paladin for Casters. 3 primary weapons I use.
P.S I know that the Valiant will be one of my favourites...when I eventually get the damn thing

I like the Talon the most overall but have recently started sniping and have become quite fond of the Widow.
I'd like to see a Lightweight Materials mod (for only a small weight decrease ~ 25-35% for a sniper rifle so that I can use the Javelin or carry a backup with a non infiltrator without completely killing my recharge speeds.

"Do you feel there is a weapon that fills every niche and level?"
Submachine guns could use some more variety. Otherwise I think we're good.
"With the above questions in mind, which is your favourite weapon overall?"
Viper, and Carnifex usually do it for me. Valiant will probably be a fav when I level it more.

There could be a few more different things. For example, the Phalanx just feels like a better, lighter Mattock and the Widow feels like a Mantis on steroids.Derek Hollan wrote...

Either the Harrier (it's fun to shoot), or the Kishock (Nothing beats seeing a Phantom go into orbit). I don't have the Javelin, though (see tag about manifest), but that's it, so these should be good enough.Derek Hollan wrote...

I'm quite sure how to answer the second question accurately. Yes, there are good weapons for most playstyles, but I feel that most of the time its just that those weapons are good, and they happen to sync with certain playstyles. I've rarely found that a weapon is terrible 90% of the time, but amazing for the other 10%.
Take the Carnifex as an example. There really isn't a playstyle that I can think of which wouldn't benefit from this light weight hand cannon. It tends to sync up well with just about any class. Even a close range character like a Vanguard can make solid use of this weapon.
Realistically, you'd give a rookie the same weapon you'd give a pro because in either event, its a good weapon and will get the job done. There are weapons with a learning curve in them, but they don't perform that far above weapons that don't in order to warrant a 'Noob vs Pro' designation.
By the way, if I had to give an example for the 90% vs 10%, it'd be high damage single shot sniper weapons, as Infiltrators (and maybe Adren Rush Soldiers) tend to make effective use of them, while the rest of the classes don't have the tool set to make them shine. Another example might be the Reegar or Claymore, but even that has more give room than weapons like the Widow and Mantis.
As for the third question, I honestly just can't answer that. I choose from a stable of different weapons depending on what I'm playing. This is a good thing, not a bad thing, but frankly that stable could always use to grow. There are weapons currently that I just don't use because every niche I need filled, I've got something to fill it, and they just don't have anything desirable to work their way in.
Its a pity, because I am the sort to want to make everything useful and interesting, but there are some guns that just don't shine bright enough next to their peers, and I'm not even talking about weapons that are obviously direct upgrades.
I've made it a point (since I have everything but UR to X) to play around with and try to find a use for every gun I have access too, but some just don't make the cut no matter what I do, or I have to literally bend over backwards to make it perform when another weapon could do it (in many cases better) without nearly the same effort.

Yeah.
Hurricane, Mattock, and Indra, in no particular order.

- The Krisae is exceptionally brutal in any hands. The Reegar is a no brainer for some classes (Infiltrators, Kroguard, Human Soldier). The Hurricane makes lots of heavier close range weapons obsolete.
- I love the Hurricane, more than half my characters use it. I wouldn't mind if some heavier weapons could compete.

Absolutely.
Overall, I would have to say I love my collector assault rifle the most. It sucks, I know, but it looks and sounds so nice. I use it all the time when I play bronze/silver, but never when I play gold. Keep adding automatic assault rifles that can actually do some damage, and I'll be a happy man.

I think this question can only be answered per weapon type. Such as, there are plenty of different Sniper Rifles that feel and play differently, but each have their own unique strenghts and weaknesses. The same is true of Heavy Pistols and Shotguns, though I think there are slightly fewer options for each. And then there are SMGs and Assault Rifles, which are woefully underrepresented. And I say that even though the Hurricane, GPSMG and Falcon may well be my three favorite weapons in the game. I just don't see enough diversity and value in the rest of the SMGs/ARs. I still don't have the Harrier yet, and it's kind of my last hope for a properly good, fully-auto AR at this point.
Derek Hollan wrote...

No, but that mostly ties back into the issue I see with ARs and SMGs.

GPSMG, hands down. I just don't get tired of firing that thing. It looks cool, sounds awesome, has a huge clip and a crazy fast RoF. It just feels right and fun, and I find that it's got a good variety of classes that it can be useful on.

Yes but some of those do need some love like most AR's. I would love to see the SMG ULM mod fixed so I could use those weapons as well.
"Do you feel there is a weapon that fills every niche and level?"
Yes but that list of weapons sure does drop off once you start playing gold. I will say I am probably not a good one to ask since I usually stick to power spamming characters like adepts.
"With the above questions in mind, which is your favourite weapon overall?"
Carnifex and Paladin. Would just be Paladin if I could get a few more ranks on it. Since I play a power character cooldown rate is important so sticking to the lighter weapons is a must. That is why the SMG ULM mod really does need to be fixed.

Yes, we have weapons for almost every playstyle in almost every weapon type. I like it as it allows for very versitile weapon setups.Derek Hollan wrote...
"Do you feel there is a good range of weaponry to choose from?"
I would prefer that weapons not be categorized by "level" i.e. weapon A is strictly better than weapon B. I would prefer weapons be categorized (and balanced) by niche. So, lets say you wanted an automatic weapon, none should be strictly "the best" but rather you should make your choice on things like, "do you want to focus on stopping power, accuracy, weight, etc?"Derek Hollan wrote...
"Do you feel there is a weapon that fills every niche and level?"
(e.g. - From low: "Give this weapon to the rookie so he doesn't hurt him/herself or anyone else for that matter" to High: "This weapon makes things go away just by its mere presence on the battlefield", and everything in between)
Honestly I think my favorite weapon is the Avenger. It really seems to be the perfect "default" or "median" weapon. It is really a jack of all trades but a master of none. It has decent damage and rate of fire but is outclassed by beefier guns like the Saber or Revenant, it is reasonably accurate but is overshadowed by the Mattock or Vindicator, and it is light enough that anyone can take advantage of it without worrying about their recharge times skyrocketting.Derek Hollan wrote...

All other weapon types except assault rifles which stink.

See above. I'd love to use an assualt rifle with my mid range soldier types.

I play a lot of biotics so the Carnifex. I also use the Krysae for my batarian soldier.

For the first one, yes. Except there are too many Restricted weapons in the game; too many Multiplayer-Only or Single-Player Only weapons, too many Exclusives (Pre-order weapons, special offers, the Collector's Edition weapons, etc.). Especially considering all of the pre-release DLC weapons are actually ON THE DISC.
As for number two, I'd say... no. I can't say any weapon in the game is truly that powerful, even the Rebellion guns. Every weapon has it's weakness, and if you're not aware of a weapons weaknesses, you're more liable to be killed than get any kills.
Favorite gun? Hard to say. I really like the powerful automatic guns like the Revenant and the Striker. But it'shard to pick just one.

I don't own all the weapons yet, but so far, in my opinion only, there is maybe a little too many weapons to chose from. Some of them is between really mediocre to completely useless. Of course some peope won't agree with me.

Hard to tell. I'm still a rookie and I doubt I will ever emerge above Bronze Level myself.

For all characters: Avenger assault rifle, light, fairly accurate and quickly achievable to level 10. Locust SMG as well, for my Engineer.
