 (continued from http://social.biowar.../9/index/441148 )

I have a long history with forums (and the drama that can come with them) and David Gaider rox my sox. In my past experiences the "leaders" seem to have taken a vow of silence or something, because they NEVER responded, and if they did it was so formal and manager-speak-y that it ended up feeling extremely distanced and almost patronizing.

David gets right in with the nitty-gritty, and it goes to show how much he cares. Sometimes he can be a bit snappy, but at least he's honest and it's usually in response to what are usually ridiculous posts. But even then, he doesn't seem to take it personally, and his humor can be rather refreshing (not to forget how enlightening and transparent-in-the-good-way his posts can be).

He's definitely someone I look to as an example of how I should lead, particularly for the mod I'm working on. Because of its controversial nature, we get a lot of opposition, so it's good to have an example like him.

He's also the one who wrote the novels, isn't it? I wonder how it is to meet him. He must have a mind too great to understand for us mortals XD

I'm sure he puts his pants on one leg at a time like everyone else. :) But yes, he's very talented, and I probably would be a bit starstruck.

One thing I appreciate most about him is the fact that he actually responds. I don't know any other gamesite I've been to where the writers actually discuss their work with the fans. Not only will he post in threads, he will answer questions about why did he make this or that choice, defend said choices, and do so in a logical, well thought out method. If you disagree with how he's done something, he discusses, he shrugs, accepts it and moves on. No getting bent out of shape.

Bioware as a whole is a very community oriented company, and David is a sterling example of that. I've never once seen him answer a "why did you do this" with "Because we wanted it that way. End of story."

Of course, I must admit I love it when someone attempts to out-snide him. The man is a professional writer, do you really think you can beat him in a war of words on teh intarwebz?

As far as his talent goes, he has incredible writing skills.  I can't come close to counting how many times I've thought "Man, I wish I'd written that."

Seems like he gets offended for everything. Hes a tool; i'd rather have a mod not say anything then start getting all defensive and acting out on the forums. Just another mod/dev on a forum power-trip. Now flame me.

Clearly, EA needs to have marketing make another 'Sin To Win' contest, where fans have to pose with BioWare devs and the winner gets a night out on the town with Gaider. :(

I give much praise. He single-handed made DA:O, my favoritest game ever.

In all honesty, DG, you wade in the muck with us. I think you are crazy for doing it, but the value of what you do cannot be overstated for the relationship you foster between your company and your fans. You should be paid as an employee of the marketing dept as well as a writer.

Cat Lance, there's something I've been meaning to tell you. In your signature, your use of an apostrophe indicates possession and not the plural.

It's nice to see someone at Bioware willing to "get down" with the great unwashed.

Yeah.

<3 David Gaider.

Anyone knows if he is romanceable?

His responses consist of snide remarks which could be interpreted as mean-spirited if you study them hard enough, and light-hearted banter.

I just wish David Gaider would take some time to respond to some of the more "serious" topics like the threads about race in Dragon Age. His input there would go  a long way to validate (or invalidate) the posts by people who were trying to offer explanations.

Wouldn't necro in the plural be necron?

Necro is just short for necromancer, in this case. Just slang. So, "s" it is.

Gaider is Canadian.

It gives him an inherent advantage over most others. The trick here is that you all think he shines, when really, that's just the inherent glow given off by those of us blessed with a life of good beer, an understanding of hockey violence, and real maple syrup.

We can't help it. We're just nice like that.
