If you have both mods at equal level, always, always, always go with the Heatsink Mod, not Magazine.  On average, the Heatsink will give you the same bonus as the Magazine, with the added bonus of nearly doubling your total ammo pool.

There's a thread around here with the math, but basically the Heatsink mod gives you about an 81 percent larger clip, and an 81 percent larger total ammo pool.  While the Magazine only gives you an 80 percent larger clip.  This is because the Heatsink Mod can work on the same round multiple times.  Of course because it's a random chance, sometimes you're only going to get a 40 percent larger clip.  But the vast majority of the time, your clip size will be between 60-100 percent larger. 

On the larger topic, the only two SMGs I use are the Hurricane and GPSMG.

I like to have it with a sniper rifle for when you need something for close quarters work. At short range it strips through shields and armour.

It's the best, but other SMGs serve a purpose if you need something lightweight, longer range, or more ammo capacity.

I've always had good luck with GPSMG on gold but the Hurricane is a wolf among sheep. Vanguards >> with the Hurricane equipped.

I always use magazine size and heatsink with the Hurricane.  I also never run it without an ammo power (well, unless I'm slumming on bronze).  ULM doesn't work and the scope doesn't make it that much more accurate or stable (and it's not a long-range weapon, except against Atlas).  Extended barrel is a reasonable alternative to magazine size, and given the number of rounds you can put on target it's probably the smarter option.  I just like extending my ammo box independence.

As for the occasional naysayer claiming the gun isn't that great, they're either unable/unwilling to do what it takes to keep it on target (and I've used it effectively without stability enhancement on non-turians) or it's sour grapes because they haven't gotten one or someone outscores them with it.  It's a wicked boss killer and it mows through mooks like they're Kentucky blue grass.

It does have what I consider one big drawback, like that of both the Reegar and Krysae:  It can make players overconfident and cause them to overextend.  I've seen it in others and I've suffered from it myself - I have a particularly tough time when my Justicar goes from a game against Cerberus/reapers to geth since I lose my damage resistance.

Stick a stability mod (its not like you have anyhting else to use them for) on it, and it will also be a better Assault Rifle then most of the weapons actually in that class.

The Hurr(Durr)icane is a godlike weapon.

I really hope I get the Eagle tomorrow. (And by Eagle, I mean Hurricane. See if I can trick the RNG god)

Also, I have to agree the Tempest and Hornet are very good too.  Both have seen me through quite a bit.

One of best potential gun for short range or short-mid range. 

I m select this when I m using CQC character like N7 Fury, Slayer, Asari Vanguard....

For me, hurrican is a good cooldown shortgun not SMG
