So the human engineer has a choice, between buffing his power damage and carry capacity, or leveling up combat drone, because taking both overload and incinerate is a must. Now, the recent buffs in the combat drone are appreciated, and after intensive testing, i can say almost worth the power damage. However, it is still not, and this is why.
Sure the drone now distracts really well, and when he pops he can deal a decent chunk of damage to enemies around him. He can be summoned in any spot and hold a zone or boss down by himself for a quick but precious few seconds. But the drone doesn't always attack immediately, sometimes getting stuck where it is, and the targets don't always turn and face the drone, instead continuing to pummel you. Many times what should hold back a few units turns into you getting overrun before the drone can steal any attention. I am skipping talking about the rocket evolution because that thing shoots walls as often as anything else
Overload and Incinerate both deal high damage to their respective defensive types, and taking power damage increases the damage by significant margins. With passive buffs, overload can deal hundreds of more damage per use to barriers and shields, and incinerate to armor, as well as the ability to carry a pistol deadlier than the phalanx and keep 200% cooldown.
Believe me, i want to be taking the combat drone, It's a cool power, and it works great in situations where i'm already not in much danger, but doesn't do as much as passives to save you in that pinch when you need to pull something out, and the better power and weapon damage lay down the law faster with more brutality.
Bioware, I will tell you the problem with combat drone

My female engineer is power focused, but I specced my male engineer to utilize a fully evolved combat drone. I play more with my female engineer, as it serves a better overall purpose, but playing as the male engineer is amusing too.

I don't really have any problems with combat drone not attacking quick enough. Also, you can get the best of both worlds if you spec your HE 4/6/6/6/4 or 5/6/6/5/4 or 6/6/6/5/3 or 6/5/6/5/4 or...yea I'm not gonna keep going lol. There's reallly no reason you have to give up those power damage bonuses for combat drone.

Yeah Fitness is for the feeble. I rarely use it and frankly unless you're just standing around all the time, you won't go down very often unless you're doing Gold matches.

IMO taking Alliance Training to 5 is non-negotiable, as well as Overload and Incinerate to 6. That leaves 0/6/6/6/6, 3/6/6/5/6, 6/6/6/5/3 (my preference), or 5/6/6/5/4 in terms of efficient builds. The question is, how many points are worth it for Combat Drone?

I have zero points in fitness and only went down a couple of times in a Silver match today - it was stupid rush to revive moves.....which I just cannot stop doing.
Keep moving and just use some shield equipment if you think you need it. I'll double up on Shield Gear and Equipment if I ever take him to Gold.

Skip fitness. That's what your drone is there for. They should all be shooting it so you can strip Shields in safety

Presently, Combat Drone > Incinerate.
And honestly I'm hard pressed to understand why you feel the need to go full fitness with a Human Engineer.

i guess i'll try it, i generally don't like the glass cannon build, when a quick salvo takes you from full health and shields to pressing A rapidly it kinda, whats the word...blows

I took the Male engineer on a field test and ended up in gold, not by choice. I have the drone loaded to the max as well as incinerate, shields and health are light so I use gear Shields 5 which gives me 30% and a level 3 consumable for shields, anyhow he did good and I got extraction, the drone was doing some serious damage for me and keeping the enemy distracted, would I run this character on gold again, probably not as I have other characters that far better suit my game play, but he will get an extensive silver test tonight.

I play 6/6/6/5/3... Exploding drones are awesome and is quite useful as it can trigger tech burst... drones aren't meant to last long in higher difficulties even in sp ME2. I use my drone as a distraction so that I can use my powers safely. One time i did a kill streak on gold with a chain attack Drone>Overload>Incinerate... I think what happened was Incinerate tiggered the techburst form overload then the drone exploded killed the incinerated unit creating a fire explosion...

I've been playing the Human Engineer since they buffed the Drone and usually rock Gold games with him:
6/6/6/5/3 + Hurricane + Stronghold = Awesomeness

+1 This.
Just go glass cannon on their ass. Learn where it's safe to be in cover and spam those powers like nobody's business.

On mine I skipped incinerate, I'm really not impressed with it. I've been meaning to promote them and try out different builds though, so maybe I'll give it a try this time.

The drone is very much worth it. Skip the last ability in your passive and put 3 in fitness. Max all other powers. The drone is a great diverssion and damage dealer all in one. What's not to love?

You can always skip r6 in incinerate. Try 6/5/6/5/4. You get to be a bit tougher, can still tech burst/fire explosion well. The other option is 4/6/6/5/5 with exploding drone. Lots of ways you can spec the HE and still be good.

6/6/6/5/3 is my go to build, the updates to combat drone are amazing, 765 damage, 2.5 radius, every 3 seconds? that is incredible. you only lose out on 200/200 shields/health by going 3 ranks into fitness rather than all 6 and the upgrades on the drone are much much better than what you trade for them

I usually go 6/6/6/5/3. Works pretty well for me.
Has anyone tried that lvl 5 shock attack on the drone? I usually go for the increased shields/damage instead...

On the male I skipped incinerate and gone 6/0/6/6/6, maxing weapon damage and carrying a claymore, widow or some heavy 2weapon combo. Works great on Silver and fine on Gold.
My female human engineer is 6/6/6/5/3 with 200% encumbrance bonus.
Keep in my that the difference in cooldowns between a 150% and 200% bonus is only about 15% actual recharge time due way the bonuses are applied. I find that aggressive vanguards are the only classes where maximum cooldown is critical. My claymore engineer above only has a 40% bonus.

6/6/6/4/4 problem solved. 6/6/6/5/3 if you really want that 15% power boost. The lower fitness really shouldn't make a big difference on a human engineer with maxed combat drone and overload.

that 15% power boost is pretty critical, since pwoers are you main damage output. That second build is what i use.
