Guh sorry but i have to ask. Did Bioware patch in drunken monkeys as replacements for Liara and James? Decided to run the Cerberus Labs N7 mission you get right after you leave the citadel for the first time in ME3. Things were goin fine up till i grabed the 2nd piece of reaper tech. At which point tactics become a tad bit important as youre pinned down for a few waves. then again when youre stuck keeping the LZ cleared. It was a nightmare i was left basicaly fumbling around because Liara and James refused to follow my positioning commands. having run this at least twice before with no problems i have to wonder what the hell happend. anyone have any ideas?

Yeah, they tend to die on me there as well. Not much you can do, unless you constantly move them to new positions out of the line of fire. Personally, I tend to let them stay down while I run around doing all the work.

The squadmates have EXTREMELY terrible AI in the n7 multiplayer map missions. There is nothing you can do.

I observed this throughout the trilogy, I also noted that your squad will target anything that you do and will move toward the target regardless, unless you target something else. The mission on Sanctum when you're dealing with Cerberus and Reapers-- tough in hardcore-- became easier when I stayed in cover and targeted enemies that I couldn't attack from that position.
If you've the right squad you'll make it look good.

I've noticed that it also depends on the weapon the squadmate is carrying. Liara seemed to like to do suicide runs to enemies when armed with an SMG, but when armed with a pistol, she'll hang back. Obviously, if James is armed with a shotgun, he'll move closer to get into its effective range; therefore, if I want him to hang back, I'll switch him to an AR.
Also, and this is kind of counterintuitive, I found that telling squadmates where to stand got me a worse outcome than just basically leaving them to fend for themselves. So now I rarely bother to direct them.
(Just to be clear: all this is not to imply that the AI doesn't suck, just that there are ways to work around it!)
