Dealing with outdoor shadows on characters

Hey all.  I made an outdoor area, and sunlight seems to be working when I generate lightmaps and post all to local, but it creates those horrible black shadows whenever characters aren't facing the sun. To get around this, I created a point - static light set to only affect characters. That helps, but there are still a few angles where I get those nasty black shadows.

So I'm wondering: Do you create more than one of these static lights, or do I just need to change the settings or move it to another position (maybe directly opposite the sunlight? Hmm... I should try that.) What works for you in your outdoor levels? Thanks,

Talis

right now i think only point-static lights will help to avoid those black spaces. at least with the release of the lvl files we can look up bioware's light settings, although i think the bad part lies within the external renderer. hopefully it will be "rewritten".

Fallout Boy seems to be recommending a static point light set to affect characters (and maybe everything else as well?) below the ground (and possibly opposite the sunlight source?). This is the best advice I've gotten so far. Some people seem to not have the problem in the 1.01 version of the toolset. Several people have recommended I use only sunlight and an ambient light. But this ends up making characters look really weird on one side at all times. Basically pitch black.

Pavel Novotny doesn't seem to be having this problem at all, and he's built a ton of levels. He says the only sunlight settings he's tweaked were color multiplier and the direction of the sunlight.
