Instead of forming a shield when they extend their palms they should fire SHARKS at the closest player. Fixed, right?

Now it's fixed, yes.

Her shield is her single greatest weakness. It is a prime opportunity to headshot her and take her out of the match, moreso than when she ducks behind a piece of cover (since usually she'll cloak and lining up a shot is more difficult).

The best way to deal with a Phantom is to attack her with powers until she puts up that shield and then lay into her with weapon fire. If you see her running towards you firing her palm-cannon, just get into cover or turn a corner.

This reminds me of people who whined about Halo Reach's Armor Lock. Because they were too stupid to stop firing and wait for it to end.

Instead of complaining because you wasted a power on her, start firing your weapon. It's not really rocket science.

YES!!!! And now 343 has made Armor Lock USELESS, nades can kill you...it take 2x as long to activate, and only lasts for 1/4 the time...its a USELESS armor ability now...It was like a n00b t00b before...but now?..."oh armor lock? i'll stick you with a nade while you can't move and kill you." -_-

You can bet they'd have been totally justified in complaining about Armor Lock, if you could use Armor Lock to become invulnerable while maintaining full mobility and damage output.

With the Phantom shield it isn't the invulnerability that makes us cry foul.  It's the fact that every power-based class in the game not a Stasis Asari is rendered almost totally helpless against them because they can pop that shield while maintaining full mobility to get in close for a sync kill, but if you leave cover to try to run from them with squishy power-based classes, they can cut you down in a second with mind bullets.

Armor Lock is a completely irrelevant comparison, it's like pointing to apples as an example of how deadly xenomorphs are in the Alien universe.

Play with an appropriate character, and phantoms are insignificant, if not, you're likely to die. Perfection! If every character were equally good doing everything, there would be only one character to choose. Play with a mixed team, and there will be no enemy that can stand against you. A uniform team, however, should have some flaw that causes TPK when not doing everything exactly right.

And while you're at it, cut of the legs of regular troops as well... they already have guns, which is clearly unfair enough, but they actually move as well!  :pinched:

Now that would add balance!  However, Bioware has an opportunity to add an element people are clamouring for, so I say instead of sharks, the phantom produces a Harvester.  Problem(s) solved.

I'm not comparing Armor Lock to the Phantom's shield, I'm comparing the complaints that arise regarding the two abilities.  They are very much similar/the same ("I don't want to adapt my playstyle, change the ability so I can continue un-affected").

I do not recall ever seeing a Phantom use her shield while moving.  The past weekend I was playing a Batarian for the Savage challenge and anytime the Phantom was on the move I was successfully able to hit her with my Ballistic Blades to weaken and/or stagger her.

I think yes they should either have the invulnerability shields removed, or have that freaken hand cannon toned down a tad. It's like a rapid fire nemesis that doesn't freak out and run away from you, but instead...well you know (insta kill). Hurray

Phantom's should lose shields

Pyro's should lose their flamer ability

Banshee's should stop using warp

Marauder's should stop being able to have shields

Rocket Troopers should stop using rockets

Please nerf them all!

They block everything? no. Overload her. Energy Drain Her. Stasis Her. Reave Her. Don't have one of those? use your power, make her stand still. then shoot the crap out of her. she will flip, so use a power. at this point she will hopefully be on health. so kill her

What I usually see is she pops the invulnerability shield, starts taking sniper-accurate Mantis 30 shots at anyone in view, and then scuttles off with the shield still up - usually towards whoever is closest so she can close on them a little more before the shield drops to make getting in knife-stabbing range.

Invulnerability is just cheap and lazy game mechanics.

Get rid of it or at least balance it in some form. Make them imobile, make them more vulnerable to some attacks or maybe from the back. Or just get rid of it

No. They'd be stupidly easy if you could hit them with powers willy-nilly.

The powers that they can't block already trivialize them.

What? I thought everyone wanted to nerf Phantoms so that they were easier to kill and did less damage to players instead of adapting and developing strategies.

Stop making sense.

OP, I'd actually be okay with this if they boosted the health on a phantom. Because of their magic space ninja shields, you can't actually tell how squishy they actually are. To put it in context, on gold, phantoms have 2362.5 barriers and 1687.5 health. Centurions have 1687.5 shields and 1860 health. Without that invulnerability, they would be laughably easy. And comparing Cerberus to the Geth or Reapers, we can't let Cerberus become any weaker.
Not to mention how useless Stasis would become.

Phantom got no invulnerability as we can still shoot them when they use their shield.

Do you honestly want to get rid of the only Cerberus unit that can add some little stress in the battlefield ?

And I thought some complained that the game was too easy...

There's a lot of 'Well I and my pro co-players can handle Phantoms just fine by adhering to a single strategy for dealing with them that not every player has access to, so therefore Phantoms do not need to be looked at.'

This is called a fallacy of composition.

Stop it.

Just because you and your group can handle Phantoms by adhering to a single strategy for killing them does not mean the entirety of the playerbase possesses the same ability.

The fact is that a single enemy in a single faction is dictating pre-game weapon and power choice for the majority of the playerbase, because if you do not have a specialized set of tools for dealing with them, then the average pub will lose to them.

That is not a desirable trait in a single enemy regardless of an individual or small subset's ability to cope with it.

I like the phantoms. They are tough, but they don't really "cheat" like Geth. Phantoms don't walk thru stasis unaffected, they don't stunlock, they are targetable with biotics/tech (until they are at a sliver of health atleast). The hand cannon is a bit overpowered. Other than that, they are a really well put together boss.

They still die from gunshots already. This is about not needlessly screwing over power-dependant classes needlessly because all of two classes out of well over 30 can deal with them reliably with stasis. Everyone else has to shoot, which is one of dozens of reasons of why Infiltrators rule the roost right now.
