I have now played through all 4 endings of the EC and will quote myself from another thread:

I felt Destroy lacked closure still (but I did appreciate the implied
reunion between Shep and LI); Synthesis left me confused and a little
uncomfortable; I really liked Control and it fit an unromanced Shepard
of mine very nicely (so what if I have a bit of a God complex? Game was
good.); and Refusal felt like the better end to the series for me, even
if it was a little short. It could have been a little more improved by
watching the exploding ships overhead and still getting flashbacks to
Anderson and your crew members, but whatever.

Since this was stickied, I thought here would be best to voice my own thanks again for putting any work into new endings / clarification. I liked it more than I thought I would by a long shot. =)

I hope future games in the Mass Effect universe do take place in sequence to this trilogy. Though the First Contact War, the story of the previous cycle, the Rachni Wars and other aspects of the past are interesting, as I've seen it stated that you don't want to add reunion DLC as Shepard's story if over - I hope that means we are moving forward, either to after the Stargazer scene or after Shepard's decision on the Citadel. I am of the mindset that the Refusal ending is the best set up for a future series that there could be, but personally doubt that this would ever be the ending chosen as canon if Mass Effect games were sequential. I will also personally hope that Synthesis is not the canon ending.

id like to ask everyone a question, (sometimes when I play cards with my friends we talk about games in 2010 we couldn't shut up about ME 2s exellent ending) can anyone on this forum have an exciting chat with their friends about ME 3s boring ending really ?

My spouse has had to listen to my ranting and theorizing and hypothesizing and speculations of the ending. If this counts, then yes. I didn't think it was boring.

Edit:: I thought it was crap before the EC, but not boring. ;P

Unlike some others, I actually like most of ME 3 a lot, certainly more than ME 2.

But the ending of the ME 3 was terrible before, and it's still terrible with the EC. At least some things are explained, but most of those explanations are still either illogical or outright nonsensical. There's some nice writing in the epilogue, but compared to other BioWare games ME 3 certainly has still the worst written ending by far, and it's a shame that the writers couldn't or wouldn't deliver something better. The only right course of action would have been to completely rewrite the ending. I, as well as certainly many others, would gladly have waited longer and even, if reluctantly, paid for a new and proper ending to the game.

Furthermore, all of the possible different outcomes that are forced on Shepard are also very disapponting. That famous short cutscene based on a high EMS of course doesn't cut it at all. I hoped for an ending where our player character would be able to experience the outcome of their actions, and in my opinion this should definitely be one possibility in a game such as this.

My conclusion is that ME 3 has after ME 2 and DA 2 restored my interest in BioWare games, because it shows that they are still able to create great games. On the other hand, I will still not pre-order any of their future games, because I will have to wait and find out if the game has a proper ending.

I just want to say thanks to everyone at BioWare for listening to the community and taking the time and effort to put together a much better ending to this game. Before I played the Extended Cut, I was pretty squeamish about playing anything new in the ME universe, particularly anything set in the game's future. I'll definitely be playing those games now (and still looking forward to DA3!).
Thank you guys so much!

Priority Earth was not the most fun mission, if that's what your getting at. I also don't know how to discuss fun. You express enjoyment. You discuss experience. Conversation can be exciting only through personal interpretation.

My cousin loved the endings, even before the EC. Modern artist. I wonder how they would answer your questions? I chose not to discuss it with them because of our conflicting viewpoints. It was too personal for me, as riddiculous as that sounds.

The game was fun. After the EC I enjoyed the Control ending and being the eternal guardian of the galaxy. This could be a point of conversation. People may yet believe that Shepard would become corrupt over millenia and restart the cycle, but I do not see this happening.

I don't know what kind of answer you want.

The extended cut made three identical endings different.  It filled in some plot holes, left some open, and created new problems (Harbinger doesn't blow the Normandy out of the sky?).  It's an improvement on what we had.

Problem is what we had was contrary to every major theme in the game.  The "Refuse" ending was sticking the middle finger to all who didn't want to buy in to Starchild's garbage in the first place.  No I don't think synthetics and organics will be in a constant state of war causing "CHAOS"!  (What was the point of the Geth/Quarian paragon outcome?)

If you have some time on your hands, here is some incredible food for thought; both posts are excellent imho and most definitely worth the read:

Of course, right along with the excellent and stimulating discussion going on in that thread in general.

Enjoy!

Thanks, these posts actually provide a thoughtful perspective to the EC and the 4th option in particular. I do admit, I felt like the delivery of the 4th option was a slap in the face to those who asked for it. Basically, if you didn't use any of the three options, you lose.

At least now, I can finally uninstall all three mass effect games and never look back. With people like Jonathan Blow and Kim Swift, I can be confident there will be good alternatives to Bioware.

I take it your comment was spawned by you only processing that one sentence in my post. If you didn't have fun playing the game: Tuchunka, Rannoch, the Citadel side missions ... then I can completely agree that we will not see eye to eye on most things. Was the ending "fun"? No. It was entertaining. Or at least that's my experience with this game, and most visual media. And aren't we having an exciting conversation about the game here, and in most other threads?

if you can tell me how the endings are logical then I will say the ending is interesting and try to hav fun talking about how interesting it (because interesting is a form of fun), but I doubt you can make logical sense of any of the endings the ball is in your court go ahead im all ears

I said entertaining. Not interesting. But it was that too.

By entertaining I mean, when you watch a film or read a book, would you say you're having fun? I'm not usually having fun until I'm talking to someone else about it and we can joke and laugh and share, during the actual experience of reading or watching something I would say I was being entertained.

I don't know how you could ever enjoy any aspect of science fiction or science fantasy if you want a logical explanation for how shooting an undefined tube would cause all synthetics to collapse, or how this radiation could differentiate between synthetics and cybernetics or synthetic blood, or for how diving into a beam would cause the Crucible to fire (shouldn't someone hit a switch?), or for how the memories of an organic can be stored after their death. But can you "logically" explain the Reapers? Massive pieces of technology with the ability to indoctrinate? If no, then you can't make logical sense of the first Mass Effect game and I'm surprise you found enjoyment in the ending of Mass Effect 2.

There is insufficient lore to make sense of the endings. You know that.

I feel that my choices in ME1 & 2 played out in the course of ME3 which resulted in a handful of MAJOR choices. Such as: Curing the Genophage, the war for Ronnach, my LI, my surviving crew members, and the final choice at the end. Those major choices in ME3 now feel like they mattered.

I just happened to start my second canon playthrough the day before the EC was annonced, so I played all the way through and I'm glad I did, I became totally emotionally attatched again and I think that helped me really appreciate what the EC did as opposed to only playing the final mission or just watching the EC on youtube.

I chose Destroy again and this time I felt like I won. Where before I felt confused, frustrated, and sad, I now felt victorious, satisfied, filled with hope. Although I really like Legion, I never really felt like I had a bond with the Geth. I just never saw them as real living people. I'm sorry, but in my opinion, it doesn't matter how much they are upgraded, they are still machines at the end of the day. I did however, feel bad for EDI. I had great talks with her and I loved her character and it was hard sacrificing her. But I didn't want to leave Kaiden on Virmire either, but it had to be done.

Seeing Ashley and the rest of my crew at the memorial was the most emotional moment of the whole series for me. She DID NOT put my name on the wall, but had a look of hope on her face, as if she knew I was still alive. And I was. I know she will find me. Sure I would have much preferred to actually see an LI reunion, but there's no reason for it not to have happened.

All in all, not a perfect ending, but a very emotionally satisfying one for me.

really fighting a human reaper knowing that one wrong move can cost a life come on ME 2s ending  was fun but indoctrination is just another higher form of brainwash, reapers are logical they are machines made with advanced technology its all explained codex there is no explaining how its ok for shep to force all life to become part synthetic and well I think u already covered how farfetched the endings are, but your right you could have fun talking about a bad movie. I should change my question did you have fun playing the end I sure didn't no boss fight just red, blue, green

I will state that I actually disliked the human Reaper, at least how it was portrayed. When I found out that it was the inside of the Reaper, I disliked it less. I didn't feel the Reaper needed to have any other form than squid. But yet, ME2's ending was fun.

Brainwash caused by advanced technology. Reapers are advanced technology. Shepard changing the molecular structure of everything struck by a particular wave of radiation through use of advanced technology.

I wish the interaction with TIM had been more interactive or that there had been a Harbinger boss fight. I agree that I did not have fun while playing through the endings, but I was eagerly enjoying them none the less after EC. Yet when I first played through, and when I first had the option to choose a dialogue option with the Catalyst, I did stare at the screen for a good few minutes thinking: this is it? It seemed so out of place. I didn't even understand what had happened once I chose my choice, and ran to the internet to discover that what I had seen was all that there was. Now, I've answered both your questions, and I will go to bed.

Edit: Must add that Synthesis is still my least favorite ending. It feels weird even using the word favorite in the same sentence, but you know what I mean.

If you don't buy the Catalyst's logic, you have the destroy ending... Why is it a bad writing/plot-hole...??? Destroy option is saying "we'll take our chances, thanks guy" You lose the geth and EDI, but that's the limitations of the superweapon! Surely some Geth will probably survive somewhere -- Geth have bases in the middle of deep space far away from relays after all.

The ending answered a lot of questions and made me feel better about how it ended. I liked that Control was narrated by Shepard. I don't like choosing that ending, but I liked what Shep had to say. Synthesis, whatever, maybe they tried to get some explanation about how everyone is now one and universally happy but its not something I guess that is explained when in a 10 minute ending. Destroy, good to go. Shep can live, Reapers die for all the cycles of life they destroyed, starchild is gone - cya! Refusal - cute.

I admire Bioware for doing this extended ending cut. It fixed the questions I had about why the Normandy was running, what happened on the ground to your team, did the fleet survive the relay explosions etc. This changing a video game ending after the fact is unheard of. The community spoke, BW listened, they did what they could, and I think now we can move on to the next big thing.

well no because the crucible is not science fitcion reapers are a jump from science we have today there is no majic button that just ends wars using space majic so ME 3 abandoned its genre in its final leg, just google science fiction ME 3 broke the rules you can't just make up random crap and call it sci fi

there are limits to science fitcion and ME 3 went too far I mean the endings are just to farfetched think about that isn't there to many unexplainable elements and tell me when another science fitcion game or movie had anything like crucible never, open your eyes people its a majic space gun
