I'm a PC player, so, i will not download until 5 or 6 hours from now. But I briefly watched "Reject" on Youtube, don't want to comment on that until i play it myself.
I've just watched a full Destroy ending live with Shepard breathing and Ash as a LI. From really bad, the ending is now an average video game ending, so that makes it better, yes. There are a lot more elements for closure, I guess they tried to put a little something for everyone in there, including Krogran babies (!). Instead of focusing on Shepard's fate, on YOUR fate, they tried to emphasize on the effects of your decisions, by illustrating them. I thought the slideshow was rather disappointing, but I take them as some sort of naive postcards that fit rather well with the stargazers, it makes the transition smoother.
I still think the StarKid was ghastly, but obviously, it was difficult to get rid of him at that point. The whole explaining process looked really bad and tiresome, i was already complaining about the Kid chewing my head off, now his speech is even longer, unecessarily detailed. Of course, it was difficult to bring some sense in all that mess to begin with. I've got to say, I just wanted to shoot him in the head before, I know i'll just want to shoot him in the head now.
A lot remains unexplained, a lot remains absurd, but i was pleasantly surprised at the fact that the Destroy option had actually changed a bit from the original, i mean the fact that it had changed, in one way or the other.
On the overall, even though you still don't quite understand everything, the Destroy ending (with Shep alive) concludes on a hopeful, open note, and that's a good thing. At least, it will put some at rest.
I don't know about myself, since i still didn't play, i find it hard to imagine what it would have been like to actually play the EC ending on my very first playthrough. My opinion now will forever be biaised by the fact that I went through the original endings.
The EC won't take away all of the regrets I have about how Mass Effect as a series could have been grand, but it now allows me to regard ME3 as an average game with unfinished features and bloody Diane Allers, a disappointing sequel, but not anymore as a big failure, almost an insult. So basically, I can say now that ME3 and ME2 are largely overrated and settle with ME1 being one of my favourite games of all time.
A game I would probably recommend as as standalone. Still a great game.
