I've always played NWN2 with the default UI, but I'm thinking about using some custom, less intrusive one. So far I've tried the SlimGUI, and Charlie's UI.

The former makes things look a bit too "futuristic" for my taste (in a medieval game), the latter looks ok but I can't seem to drag and move some things, like the chat window and the combat log, or the DMFI Tools (when in a PW).

Any idea of how to fix this issue, or any suggestion about some other good custom UI out there? Maybe I should also mention that I use the Warlock's Buddy sometimes, which modifies a part of the UI as well. It's listed as compatible in the SlimGUI notes, but I'm not sure about other UIs.

you'd have to modify files ...

UIScene
draggable="true"

I started with Charlie's UI + JOG's hotbar, the only difficult thing about making a window draggable is finding the .Xml file that handles it, Ark

Thanks. I'm still looking around for other UI mods (just checked xUI), I might end up with a mix or whatever. I'm open to more suggestions if there's any.

Does anyone know of any mod to make the player chat window smaller? Charlie's makes it even bigger, and the others I've tried don't modify it at all, IIRC.

I'm not sure I understand you - with "player chat" you mean where the combat log and all is displayed, right? Well you can easily adjust it's size with the mouse; go over the edges and you'll see an arrow appear.

Neither. It's called like that, "player chat", a window that you can open by clicking on the "eye" menu. It's only used for multiplayer though, to send messages to other connected players, so you may not know of it if you only play single player.

I've managed to get a decent looking (just decent, not great) UI with Charlie's. Now I just need to fix this damn camera mode resseting issue. I normally can fix it, but I seem unable to do so now. Not sure if it has something to do with all this...

where ya select who to send a /tell to ...

i think that's Chatselect.Xml
It looks like one of the simpler ones to modify ( size ) if yare into it, just copy to

MyDocs->NwN2->UI->custom (from the install->UI->default folder, or wherever it is ..)

etc,

re.Camera
you mean, how it tends to revert to Strategy mode on load? i doubt it's related, but I'm open to the possibility if it'll fix mine too.

Yeah, chatselect.xml. I had just removed Charlie's version of it and stick with the normal one, but I can take a look at the size, thanks.

Camera: Yes, but to character mode (I use exploration). I've had that problem many times in the past, but I've always managed to solve it (fixing or resetting the ini). Not now. I've tried removing Charlie's stuff from the override and it seems more stable that way, putting it inside again resets it to character mode again. No idea of what can be causing it, maybe the hotbar?

- just did a bunch of troubleshooting on the camera thing.

First I checked Hotbar.Xml to see if there was any apparent functions/parameters there that might be automatically setting a default mode in Charlie's, nope none apparent ( i even removed the command that fires up the tutorial scripts there ).

Second, I went at it with Nwn2player.Ini ... i'd thought that [Game Options]CameraMode=x was controlling what camera mode got loaded on startup, but after trying a dozen or so permutations I did not see CameraMode= have much any effect whatsoever ( to my surprise, sort of ).

Third, I noticed that under [Game Options]Client Mode=x the following occurs:

;Client Mode=
;0 Character Mode (changes when mode is selected)
;1 Strategy Mode (changes when mode is selected)
;2 Exploration Mode (changes only when mode is selected & saved in Options)

So unless someone can bust that open, I believe Exploration Mode is hardcoded to *not* get saved until the Options GUI is Accepted.

/shrug .. Loading ...

Thanks for all the help, kevL.

Same, I also experimented a bit with that option and didn't notice a difference.

So, can I save it then?

Just tested it again. Started the game without Charlie's UI, set Exploration, restarted the game and Exploration remained there. Closed the game again, installed Charlie's, started the game... and it was on Character mode. Switched to Exploration, restarted the game (still with Charlie's), and it was on Character mode again. Switched again to Exploration, closed the game, removed Charlie's, started again, and Exploration remained.

So I have no idea of what it could be and I'm not saying I don't believe you, but judging from this test and all the ones yesterday, it looks like Charlie's has some sort of impact on it.

By the way, a couple more things: I tried to make the chat windows draggable as you explained in your first post. That made them draggable, but prevented me from resizing them. I ended up removing the related files. I hadn't notice any difference from the normal chat windows so not a problem, just saying, for the record.

I also resized the party chat, but I think I'll stick with the normal one (probably resized somewhat), because the one from Charlie's doesn't apparently have a scroll bar, preventing you from sending "tells" to some players.

i sure would Like to know what about charlie'sUI is switching the camera to Character Mode ... it sounds like a clue,

Arkalezth wrote...

haha ;)

someone pointed out a couple months ago, Dann perhaps, that the camera can be saved to Exploration by opening the Options and clicking Apply/Accept. I had nwn2player.ini open on my secondary monitor and was literally watching the value of Client Mode= change as i did that

So the answer is, tentatively, yes.

ok, since the thread is Custom UI, here's a tip: you might be able to compare .Xml files ( visually in two text editors ) and notice the parameters you like about each, and merge them into your own custom GUI -- eg. bring the scrollbar back, etc. Sounds like you got it covered tho,

The only link that matters : Obsidian Programmer

aside from this one : NWN2 XML & GUI Coding For Beginners

and this one : Charlie's XML Conformer

ps. am looking at the RoP but don't even cross yer fingers.

I tried that when testing (applying/accepting after changing the camera), as that's how I had interpreted your post, but it didn't seem to make a difference.

I'll take a look at those links, but I'll most likely just use files from other released UIs and not create something from scratch. Thanks anyway.

Heh, thanks for the cheer.

Do you mean, as discussed on this thread?

About the UIs, I'm currently trying Tchos' high res mods plus Lite UI.

yes. If significant progess gets made, will post there

you see, usually I always extend my buffs, but the module i'm in now is in that 7 - 9 levelrange when it's not quite practical to Extend, imho. Ergo I finally installed the RoP & just think its soo cool :)

no ETA, nothing to see here, etc etc

No problem, but good to know that you managed to do something about it at all.
