It seems that a lot of people are taking it quite poorly, as a slap in the face. This is totally understandable for the people who wanted a happier ending.

However, I don't think BioWare was deliberately trying to insult players by including it. The "reject but fail" is a pretty classic "die free rather than live as slaves" kind of outcome. Before the EC, it was already insinuated that doing nothing would lead the Reapers to victory - this just shows a bit more.

What say you?

It's the only ending where Shepard acts like Shepard, and the only ending that (I feel) provides closure (even if it is in the "everybody dies" way).

It is now my canon ending.

I kinda like the reject ending. At least it's realistic.

But I still can't stop thinking about the starchild being BioWare. It's like "You want new endings?! SO BE IT!" and boom, everyone dies.

I agree but the problem I have with it, is it IS the only ending where Shepard really acts like Shepard, and it seems as thought Bioware though the mouth of the starkid (which was always understood to be an authorial device) seems to say, "You don't like my endings?!"

*Curbstomp*

And you are no matter how much EMS you have...and during that scene after the speech, Shepard does nothing.

It seems petty and more than a little spiteful when I saw it.

Reapers offer you an option that will destroy their entire race, yet take offense when you plink at them with a pistol.

Starchild confirmed for Mac Walters's passive aggressive avatar

Seeing that one didn't bother me as much as some here. Hell at least you can say screw it I tried. + everyone comes with me, actually might make that my canon since they left me to die. Kill em all!

I wouldn't have been so annoyed with it if it had been included in the original game.

But now it just seems like a way for the writers to vent through their character. "Don't like our endings? Think you can do better? Screw you, everyone's dead!"

I see it exactly as Bioware punishing people who don't accept their "artistic vision".

There's little to discuss. You either pick Bioware's endings or you lose.

My favorite ending with a very powerful message. Never submit, never surrender!

Accept our artistic vision or Die!

But yeah. I'm not unhappy that this kind of ending exists, but to trigger it by being Shepard or shooting SC? Someone in Bioware made this personal.

I love it.

I just found it stupid that (in the initial ending) there was no option where the cycle continued.

Good stuff Bioware.

Rejection is a reiteration of Mass Effect 1's ending theme. Go down fighting.

In essence, rejection of Mass Effect 3 means Saren was right. Submission is apparently preferable to extinction. Because fighting is pointless. 2 out of 3 games are pointless because the original bad guy had the right answer all along.

Thats how the whole Reject ending came off to me as well.  Which in the end shows just what Mac Walters and  Casey  Hudson think about the series and fan base...

So with reject Bioware is saying, "The bad guys will give you options to save yourselves, don't ever think you can accomplish something with love, unity and cooperation. Submit to the bad guy."

Since March, many people wanted to reject the endings entirely and take their chances against the Reapers despite being told numerous time how they can't be defeated without the Crucible.
Bioware gave those people exactly what they wanted. They stuck to their morals and went down fighting.

I'm going to teach the star kid the meaning of love and unity by accidentally shooting him.

I prefer the Rejection ending, but, yeah, the Catalyst's angry response is pretty much Bioware'ss internal spite for fans.

Yeah, it would of been nice to see something like Halo Reach's ending. That was one of the best ever imo.

I know a lot of people were saying that they would rather Shepard just stay there so they wouldn't have to pick, the reject ending kind of felt like Bioware saying, "You don't want to choose? Fine, then the whole world will just end!"
