Your one sentence leaves out a lot and is hardly a very comprehensive counter argument.

I am tired of having this discussion but I will make one more attempt. The games have been about overcoming the odds and not bowing to what NPCs claim is the inevitable. Then the ME3 ending happens and it reverses this. You must do what is expected and bow to the Catalyst claims is the inevitable. See the issue?

Its like arguing with a Birther. No matter what proof is presented, they still can't believe a black guy is President.

... That is the dumbest thing I've heard all morning: There is domonstratable proof that Barak Obama was born in the US, versus historical events which fall on both sides of an issue?  Are you high?

This thread and it's title already establish that you take this dlc personally. The consequences for not using the Crucible had been established all game. For you to not see that is you letting your emotional investments get in the way of what had been hinted at all game. The proof was there you just refused to see them and yearned for some ending that didn't happen.

I know what you are saying and I am saying that you overcome the odds with the resources available to you.  If you don't do loyalty missions in ME2 your crew dies, if you don't use the IFF you become space debris, if you don't use the Crucible your cycle dies.
Just having the chance to win is overcoming the odds. If you reject that chance then it isn't BW punishing you, it is you throwing away the chance they gave you.  To quote Mark Cuban to Skip Bayless: stop talking in generalities and get specific. I have listed very specific examples and you have not. Start doing that and maybe this can generate some real discussions.

Nah, they are only punishing themselves with diminished sales in all upcoming future titles. This is one they'll survive thanks to EC but will forever suffer from. As Forbes put: too little and far too late.

I'm taking your comments (a bit) out of context, but it drives the point home.

If you liked the changes the ExCut made, more power too you. Are you doing anything constructive to assist, sway opinion of, or deter the vitriol animosity that Bioware has conjured upon themselves, blaming many long time supporters? (mainly financial through retail purchases, stock investments & good ole' word of mouth).

The Mass Effect consumer was asked to pay a premium for something that was promised to be Mass Effect 3. It's not a far stretch that the "3" was a continuation of "1" & "2". The product currently delivered under the guise of Mass Effect 3 is under dispute. It's no different than picking up a book that says "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", but contains a steamy romance novel instead. The reader-writer contract is often debated about here, but it exists (whether anyone wants to admit it or not) past the first sale.

So back to the OP's question, are we "literally" being punished ? You bet your butt it's punishment. The "previous" ending was a 3 colored c*ck slap, this is installment just had the curiosity to put a condom on first. There is more "hate" going on right now on the corporate of the fence than there ever was on the consumers' side.

The Catalyst is offering you a chance to save the galaxy, because he sees no other option for the Reapers. If the cycle is allowed to continue, then it is almost inevitable that the Reapers will be destroyed because the next cycle will be very prepared for their impending invasion. The Catalyst offers the option to destroy all synthetics, but he stresses the fact that "the created will always rebel against their creators,"; by doing this, the Catalyst makes Destroy the least desirable option. The Catalyst makes Synthesis and Control the most appealing options because it is the only way that synthetics, organics, and the Reapers can continue their existence.

Are we litterally being punished for not accepting the self-confirming circular reasoning of the catalyst's pseudo-intelectual rubbish?  I'm referring to the "reject ending" where in we more or less get the gaurenteed "everyone dies", and yet somehow it is still my favourite of the now 4 potential endings...

Oh no!  Free content that you downloaded via high-speed internet for a game you paid for with $70 of excess income displeased you!  You deserve better.

I thought the EC was good, but it wasn't good enough. After all a reunion with Shepard and his friends should have been in the EC. Is that too much to ask for?

You're right, we do. Welcome to america where we can voice our concerns and expect promises upheld, perhaps you've gotten us confused with Soviet Russia or China where we have no real choice in what is marketed no matter how unpleasent and have no recourse in voicing our concerns. Easy mistake to make.

It isn't a punishment. The entire game is about getting the resources necessary for the Crucible. If you could not use it and have everything turn out completely fine, it would sort of invalidate the plot of much of the game. It's just the logical consequence to not using the only weapon you have capable of winning the war.

Yeah I love the whole point of uniting the galaxy. To stall while the  Crucible can be activated.

LOL! This.

Here we go.  So nice we can voice our concerns over video games.  I'll tell you what, if you're going be mad and angry and really believe that they cheated you out of $70, do something about it.  But don't talk like you deserve it.  You don't deserve anything.  You don't deserve your money back, you don't deserve talking about it on the forums.

They allow you to log into a website they provide for you, talk about content they gave you for free, and you come back and tell them you deserve more?  Thank your parents or whomever brought you to America because that attitude won't get you anything outside of it.

Meanwhile, everyone else in the world is begging for running water and a chance to live long enough to see their kids grow up, but you deserve better video games.

Yes.  I just went there.

Eh people that shot at the catalyst kind of got what they deserved. You have a chance to end the cycle but you won't because of your stubborness and pride. So be it

The idea of shooting the Starkid came straight from these forums. The reject ending is a passive-aggressive low blow to the player community, especially those who were especially vocal in expressing their dislike of the original endings. Somebody was obviously hurt and offended that players would have the nerve to reject the Starkid and his infinite wisdom, and they are in turn "retaliating" against the people who felt they had better ideas of an ending than the red/green/blue holy trinity.

Tell me, in which of those games are you facing the ENTIRE REAPER ARMADA? The Reapers who have been doing this for millions of years? Who are devastating numerous planets, killing millions of people, PER DAY?

Congratulations. You beat one Reaper and a bunch of Collectors. Way to go.

This is slightly harder than that. And by "slightly harder" I mean "impossible".

I agree with you completely.  It is my favourite ending because it is the only one that resounds the theme of the entire trilogy and preserves Shepard's ideals.  I am incredibly dissappointed that this ending results in total failure, and that the following exposition lasts less than a minute.  You should be rewarded for making this choice, not punished.

Once again, Bioware have lost me on this.  I don't understand where this is all coming from.  Do they actually care about their own game at all?
