Two months ago: "F YOU BIOWARE! Y U NO GIVE US OPTION TO TELL STARBRAT TO F OFF?!?!?!?"

Today, after giving you the option to tell Starbrat to F off: "F YOU BIOWARE! WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE CAN'T BEAT THIS MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS OF YEARS OLD SUPER-TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED RACE THAT'S KILLING MILLIONS OF PEOPLE PER DAY WITHOUT THE STARBRAT! I SHOULD BE ABLE TO KILL A REAPER WITH A SPITBALL JUST BECAUSE I SAID SO!"

Oh, come off it people. Seriously.

ME-ME2 we beat the odds so BULL****.

Tell me, in which of those games are you facing the ENTIRE REAPER ARMADA? The Reapers who have been doing this for millions of years? Who are devastating numerous planets, killing millions of people, PER DAY?

Congratulations. You beat one Reaper and a bunch of Collectors. Way to go.

This is slightly harder than that. And by "slightly harder" I mean "impossible".

That is exactly the point.  That is what makes a story good, when a hero is able to win despite impossible odds.  It might seem cliche, but think of any story that you have enjoyed and it turns out this always happens.

Lord of the Rings?  Everyone doubts Frodo and thinks his quest is impossible - he does it anyway.  Result?  We feel pretty damn good about it.  Though it inevitably results in his death, it has a massive payoff attached to it.  Peace for all the charatcers who deserved it so much.

Hamlet?  Everyone dies including Hamlet, but Hamlet kills Claudius in the process, a task that previously seemed impossible.  The payoff however is massive - Claudius is dead and Horatio is left to restore the Dainish monarchy free from Claudius' corruption.

Mass Effect 3?  Shepard does the impossible - he refuses to cooperate with the Reapers.  But everyone dies.  There is no payoff.  By goodness there should have been one.

The payoff is that while you may have died, you managed to leave behind enough technical help and planning that the next cycle was able to end the Reaper threat - through not being stupid and trying to go at it on their own.

Ta-da.
