Thank you for the Deep Roads

I've found that the Deep Roads are very much like I would envision the huge system of underground highways. The networked tunnels, with their vaulted ceilings, high bridges and huges doorways were brilliantly thought and designed, and to me they transmited the feeling they should, of an army of crafters producing beautifull and functional tunnels.
The fact that they are in disrepair, and that you have to go through the side tunnels and caves only contributes more to this feeling of a fallen Empire, that left great works in it's wake.
Thank you for the Deep Roads

* Crossing the bridge in running battle.
* Creepy poet tree in Branka quest.
* Being lured into the spider nest.

There's a difference between "Hard but fun" and "Tearing your hair out" and BioWare, IMO, steps too often into the latter.
It's not just DA:O, either. Baldur's Gate and NWN2 did the same thing.

I can imagine it's hell if you're not playing a super-optimized build of say, warrior.
And yes, the BG series contained some very difficult battles as well. I think most people used cheesy tactics in the BG series to survive. You could for example use Wish to rest mid-battle and regain your spells. Or if a spell was fired at you you could just leave the room before getting hit.

Then there was of course the whole Branka quest that was amazingly well done and creepy.

BioWare did not make NWN2.
Obsidian did, that's why it sucked so badly.

Um no. I had full walkthroughts of BG where I didnt died even once. No chance of that in DA:O.Ambaryerno wrote...
Some of those battles were among the most frustrating I've played so far.

NWN, well, I only managed to play it once and afterwards never could raise the energy to play it again.

Tough, frustrating battles make you sit back and rethink your party and/or strategy.

NWN2 didn't suck, NWN2 is a very good game. End of discussion.
Nah, "to each his own".
To be honest, I didn't find the OC and SoZ particularly fun, but Mask of the Betrayer is the 2nd best game I've ever played (probably along with DA:O, which has grown on me).
The winner however is still by far Planescape: Torment.

I hated that game so much.
As for the Deep Roads, I did enjoy it and is perhaps one of the funnest allies to recruit in the game. My only thing with the Deep Roads that I can say is a negative, is the complete lack of random encounters when travelling in the Deep Roads. Every dwarf in Orzammar tells you how dangerous and infested the Deep Roads in Orzammar are, yet you never get waylaid while travelling in them... it was safer to travel in the deep raods in this game than the surface. Was kinda silly.

Never had any random encounters in the Deep Roads myself at any rate, but I've only been through the game twice.

*Edited for bad spelling. meant Deep roads not Depp roads, Jack Sparrow had no place in this game.

LA cut months and months of dev time off of KoTOR2 to push for a Christmas release, thus the suckage.

But to stay on topic, I really loved Orzammar, especially the Deep Roads. Easily, my favorite of the four main recruiting quests. Random encounters would have been a nice touch. More darker areas would also have been cool. It would have made for some interesting Shriek ambushes ^,^.
