The original writer is another delusional person who believed in the IT, that's all I have to say.

I think it's time Forbes and everyone on this site shut their self entitled traps.

yes because clearly we should only be allowed to talk if we're blindly praising Bioware.  They may have done good in the past but that does not shield them from critism

No you should cut your loses and leave. At this point Bioware can do nothing to please you, there is no reason for you to stick around.

Thanks to Forbes, Bioware should engage Paul Tassi as a councilor for the ME3 team.

They can cut out the Star Kid, that's simple enough.

But no, it was too complicated. :D

All I wanted was to destroy the Reapers (you know, your mission since ME 1), but not the Geth with it.

I like hard choices, but that's going too far.

Also, Deus Ex Catalystas sucks and there are still plot holes everywhere.

It's definitely better but not enough to make me care again about any future content.

I think of all the possible criticisms of the EC, not implementing IT is one of the weakest.

So basically he wasn't going to be pleased no matter what if it wasn't Indoctrination theory? No point in taking his opinion then if he's not going to be open-minded about what we did get. Which I did think was pretty damn good, and for free no less, even though it cost them probably more than a million dollars at least to get it all put together. And this coming from a pretty ardent hater of the original endings.

Some people are just never happy unless they get EXACTLY what they want.

I should point out that the author of the article also said:

Quote from article: It was a respectable effort to try and please fans, but the point is that no one should have to go back and re-do something like this. I may not have liked the way Prometheus ended, but I don’t expect Ridley Scott to come out with a five minute extension of the ending three months after the movie hit theaters. That would be strange for any film, and despite the flexibility of the newer medium, it’s rather uncomfortable for a video game as well.

So, I'm really fascinated by this, all the endings haters agreeing with the article are actually acknowledging the idea of artistic integrity/creative control per the Prometheus passage? They sure must be if they think Forbes nailed it again - which means they possibly A) are being hypocritical B) genuinely had some sort of change in their philosophical stance C) actually do think the writing at the Forbes site is so awesome that they're compelled to mention it constantly or D) they didn't read that quoted passage very closely. I'm guessing that there might be this kneejerk "anything Forbes says is awesome because they supported endings haters!" response. Gotta love action without any thought behind it!

You completely misread his point. His point is not about artistic integrity at all, it's about simple facts. People going back into a universe and doing the same thing over again just to get a slight add-on to the existing endings simply doesn't work.

It's not really BW's fault, except that the EC should have been in the original game, but nothing we can do about that now. It's simply very hard to make people care about something they put on the shelf two months ago, at least enough to go replay 3 hours of it in order to get an extra 5-10 minutes for the ending.

So you are admitting that the people who don't like the ending outnumber the people who do?

Actually it's more like Forbes, or rather a SINGLE BLOGGER AT FORBES, doesn't pander to the big corporations, like IGN, Kotaku, etc., who dismissed the "entitled consumer's" (justified) complaints out of hand and tried to paint them all with the same brush, saying that everyone wanted, I believe one guy said, "rainbows, puppies, and unicorns."

I actually somewhat agree with this sentiment.

I didn't think I would feel this way, but Shepard does indeed deserve better fans.

I doubt any of his ME3-based articles were written out of any actual interest or opinion he has, since his opinions almost identically mirror that of the naysayers.  And his reason for disliking the EC, despite it giving folks the closure they wanted, is that BW said "IT is debunked"?

That's just silly.

Because no one deserves to get what they paid for, right?

Good article.

Right, you know, 'cause the extended cut is free.

Great, maybe now you can collectively declare the company and game universe dead and pick up the pieces of your shattered lives after your latest bitter disappointment. After all, BW obviously hates you because they spent all that time and effort to address a number of the concerns that people had about the endings. They made it crystal clear that this wasn't going to be a complete do-over. While the author clearly thinks the endings should have been perfect right out of the box and that the original flaws remain (which presumably equates to "the Catalyst still exists"), I should point out that the author of the article also said:

BW promised only an expansion on the existing endings and clarification, and that's what they delivered. You wanted to know that life goes on for your friends and everyone else, and that they don't die horribly due to starvation and being hopelessly stranded in our solar system? *snicker* You do. I guess all those arguments for the gloom & doom future where everyone's dead, stranded, and/or inbred are settled now, aren't they?

You wanted to be able to defy the Catalyst? You can - enjoy dying for the sake of satisfying your freedom-or-death principles. Personally, I'm glad it's all over with one way or the other - those still determined to hate it for not fulfilling their every desire (because they're impossible to please) can go form a support group and boycott future games to their hearts' content. Maybe they can even bake themselves some cupcakes and build a life-size Reaper in protest over not getting what they wanted - because the cupcake thing really made a difference the first time around. The others who wanted clarification and more details got it.

Well put.

A better title would be

Forbes: An Entitled Whiner Complains Because the Ending Didn't Do Something That Bioware Explicitly Said It Wouldn't

What a laughably bad article.

Oh dear. The moment you start accepting everything, no matter how bad it is, is your downfall. Free does not equal good, and the developers aren't gods, no matter how much you may worship them.

Mass Effect was and will always be a product for the masses, and it will be art in the second place, which is very far away from the first place. The 'entitlement' crying and saying that people are not allowed complain actually gives them the green light to sell you complete bs.
In the future no matter how ridicilous something will be, when you complain about it, you will be shot down because it's art and you don't get it. And when you will be promised that a future game will feature something, but you don't get it, you'll have to accept it.

Why are games shorter and of less quality with every sequel? Because people just accept it instead of refusing to buy something.

But obviously this part of consumerism is lost on a lot of people.

Since thre isn't really anything more to say, I will just go.

Well, by that logic, I doubt anyone at IGN or Kotaku wrote any of their articles out of any actual interest or opinion they might have, since their opinions almost identically mirror that of the yaysayers.

The EC doesn't really give all that much closure. Is it better? Yes. If it had been included with the original endings, would there have been a massive outcry? Most likely not. It's still a crap way to end the trilogy, and far under BW's usual standards, (and I guess by usual, I mean as of three years ago or so, as it certainly hasn't been the case lately- DA2, ME3).

So basically, you all are pounding him because of his opinion that IT would have made the endings better, and that he says he's "somewhere inbetween" on how he feels about the EC instead of being fully behind it.

Good to know that any opinion that doesn't back up Bioware's fanboys is denigrated just because, well, it doesn't back up Bioware's fanboys. He's not mad at the EC, he just feels "meh" about it. So do a lot of us.

Can you blame them? Turning their video game news and editorial section into "Retake HQ" for three months probably sent their pageviews, and by extension ad revenue, into escape velocity.

The only thing that sells better than sex for journalists is confirmation bias.

But I guess that would make me entitled to expect quality work from a person who normally delivers quality goods.

Soooo.... does this same logic hold about IGN and Kotaku's articles that blatantly twisted what the fans actually wanted? They were just doing it to up their page-views? Or are they some noble souls that did it even though they knew their opinion would be disagreed with?

Funny how that works. The people who write something you disagree with obviously must be doing it for these selfish reasons, they can't possibly have an opinion that is different than yours without having an ulterior motive for holding it.

The arrogance of people on these boards, just lol.
