The Problem is Plot Holes That Aren't Even Related to the Ending or Ext-Cuts

A lot of the bad plot holes are entirely prior to the extended cut.  Many remain post-extended cut.

1) The crucible not being mentioned by the VI on Ilos is something I realize wasn't done because they didn't plan ahead.  Still this is a glaring flaw in continuity, considering the crucible is the only thing that defeats reapers.

2) The crucible needing to be activated by the Citadel doesn't make sense because the Reapers normally start every cycle by taking the Citadel first.  Our case was a fluke.  Why would the Crucible designers make it so that this machine required the first thing that is taken over by the Reapers?

3) The Citadel was left ripe for taking over when the Reapers attacked Earth.  Not sure how or why the humans could transport the crucible to it safely.

4) The idea that civilizations that share zero contact with one another could combine efforts to design a functional weapon that they don't even understand the inner workings of is wildly difficult to accept.  Also, that the weapon melds as a part of the Citadel all along is even more confusing.  Really the Citadel was this entity all along that the Crucible just brings out, which is really confusing.

5) How does the destroy ending not lead to starvation?  I understand control and synthesis rebuilding together would work well enough, but the destroy ending should lead to the wiping out of basically all life in the Sol system.  There wouldn't be food available, not long enough to wait to rebuild the relays.  All the colonies that relied on food being sent to them would be wiped out as well.  This is not acknowledged.

6) And most importantly, Saren was right all along.  There was no reason to kill him in the first game.  His methods were severe but he wanted exactly what Synthesis provides.  Perhaps had the devs acknowledged this in the cinematic for synthesis, which I was half expecting while watching it, then it wouldn't have been bad at all.  In fact, it would have been okay if we admitted killing Saren was actually a mistake narratively.



Really, my biggest regret about all this is that Mass Effect 1 doesn't make a whole lot of sense anymore.  ME2 was open enough that it would have worked with either ME1 or ME3, but really can't work with both.  They contradict one another.

A second problem is that the decisions that were promsied to have enormous weight, like the collector base and the rachni decisions, were again ignored entirely.  BioWare overhyped these factors pre-release to a point of dishonesty.  This is and will remain my biggest longterm concern, as well as my reason for not pre-ordering BioWare in the future (and not purchasing without price reductions).

Additionally, the "control" ending turns out to be the "good" ending, synthesis the "best" and destroy the worst.  This, despite that control is the ending affiliated with the villain of ME2, synthesis is the villain of ME1, and destroy is affiliated with the second most heroic character in the franchise.  

It'd be like if we found out that Bernie Madoff was only stealing money because he created a cure for cancer and wanted to give it to people all around the world for free.  Or that Jerry Sandusky was actually innocent all along and only wanted to help people.  Turns out that Saren was really just a progressive thinker, punished by the inability of those around him to accept his ideas.

I wasn't expecting anything different than what was shown, really, I gave up on ME after desperately trying to convince myself to like the ending.  The extended cut really answers only those concerns easiest to address, which is still more than they could have chosen to do.  I don't know that I really will buy BioWare.  I'll certainly never preorder again.  The plot and decisions in these games is what has always been the draw and what has made me overlook a lot of the problems with Bioware products.  I'm not even asking for a particularly amazing story, but just one without flaws.  And a marketing campaign that doesn't involve blatant falsehoods.

I really hope the devs take some of these comments into consideration.  I really cared a lot about these games, and wanted BioWare to succeed.  There aren't that many companies making these types of games anymore.
