Okay here is an idea, they didn't have to show a real reunion. This is how I would have done it and it would had been one easy fix. So the Normandy is shown leaving where is crashed, then it shows the breathing clip. Right at that clip I would have added your LI's voice yelling "Shepard!" See they found Shep. How hard could that had been? Really? It would had been one tiny audio clip that they could have put right there. Heck they could have reused the audio clip from earlier in the game. Gezzee.
