 ...Mass Effect 3's plot was just to take back Earth? 

What if the goal of ME3 was to "take back Earth" but not finish the war? Imagine gathering all the recources, uniting the troops and winning Earth back, the first of the many battles to come but not fully ending the Reaper threat. In the end, the Reapers would just pull back.In ME4 you would work on eradicating the Reapers from the galaxy as a whole. 

I honestly thought that Bioware would take this aprach because of the whole "take back Earth" marketing. But now, after the endning which we currentyly have, I would have strongly prefered the ME3-ME4 aproach.
