I really hate being in the role of the conspiracy nut, but today I can't help it. To me Bioware's first serving of that thing they called an ending was 100% wrong and my god how could they not know it (i know that's not exactly objective but please keep reading and hear me out). Now they've tested our response to that much wrongness, so they've given us a serving of something that's a mix of wrong and right for test number 2.

First of all they're testing our feelings:

Control ending could feel right if you like being a big space bug guardian, wrong if you hate insidious music.

Sythesis ending could feel right if you like the idea of an immortal/enhanced humanity, wrong if the thought of the glowy green wire faces freaks you out.

Destroy is just ambigious about whether shepard lived. You could gain hope or lose it. Also you will probably feel much different about it depending on your feeling for synthetics during the game.

Reject is probably sad unless your just overly attached to the feeling of freedom and/or the thought of organic life surviving even if humanity as a species dies out.

So, on top of testing our feelings, they're also testing our intellects.

While I was initially glad for all the plot holes that were closed up, persons smarter then myself have made threads pointing out the many new plot holes which have actually been opened up, such as the normandy picking up the crew but strangely not getting shot by harbinger, etc and many other things. Also there's the issue of the absurdly large dowload (2GB) for our new slide shows, and yet curiously our 2GB download ends up on our hard drives remarkably fast. And why do we need to play the cerberus station over again, how many people will point our the absurdity of that? So it's a test of how much work  we will do as well, how many people will play those 3 hours over again, and how many will simply do the convenient thing and mosey on over to youtube.

OK my rant is close to complete. Hopefully some of you will see what I'm driving at or at least get a good chuckle. For anyone else who thinks bioware is just people who makes mistakes and has no agenda, feel free to make snarky comments and hand me my tin foil hat :wizard:

Meh, silly conspiracy is silly conspiracy.

Bioware had a good formula for making stories, and when they followed that they made $$$.

In Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 they tried to experiment with new ways of telling stories, to try and grow. Didn't work.

Now its up to them to decide if they should keep trying to fix what aint broken, or to keep trying to evolve, which is risky and they've felt the bitter backlash sting twice now.

They will always keep trying to improve, while I prefer baby steps to leaps of faith in game development from one title to the next... They must always try to improve so do not expect them to copy and paste from a previous title from start to finish. As such even though I did not like DA2 they made improvements over the course of the DLC and dialogue with them about plans for future make DA3 look like could be very good game. ME3 had improvements over ME2 and ME1 but it also had it's downsides, trial and error of which I can understand no problem.

In answer to the OP though that answer is no. A guinea pig has no choice in whats done to it, you chose to buy their games and can choose not to if desired. It is their games, their stories so in the end just wait for reviews and such if you are not sure about if want something they make or not in future.
