So, a couple weeks ago I had a hard drive failure, and lost my Mass Effect saved games (1, 2, and 3). I hadn't used Origin for a while before that, probably a month or two. Luckily, ME3 and Origin backed up my saves to the cloud, so I should still have been good.

With the Extended Cut out today, I decided to reinstall ME3 and restore my saved games from the cloud. ME3 sees the saves, but won't load them.

My process so far has gone as follows:

- Install Origin
- Install ME3, fails at 99% due to PhysX
- Google for a while to find a solution
- Install PhysX separately
- Install ME3 again
- Install From Ashes
- Try to run ME3, fails due to miissing license error
- Google again for more troubleshooting
- "Repair Install" ME3
- Try to run ME3, seems to work, restores my saved games from the cloud, didn't actually try playing the game
- Wait for the Extended Cut to be not "Unreleased"
- Install Extended Cut
- Run ME3, try to load a saved game
- Loading... Loading... Loading... 30 minutes later still loading
- Close Mass Effect with Ctrl-Alt-Del -> End Process because it's not responding
- Try restoring the saved games from the cloud again
- Repeat the loading attempt 3 times with different save games, same results.
- Repair Install on From Ashes and Extended Cut
- Try loading saves, same result


The saved games all seem to be there in the folder. They show up in the loading menu, but nothing happens once I get to the "Loading" screen. It just sits there forever while the icon spins in the corner. I've been at this for a good 5 hours now.

Can anybody help? I haven't been able to find any other examples of the same issue in my searches and browsing this board. Has anybody seen this before?

Oh, also, the title screen (with the image of earth being bombarded), now shows a swath of multicoloured pixels across earth, where there should have been fire. Not sure if it's related, but there you go.

Just tried starting a new game to see if that worked. Crazy graphical glitches in the first cutscene, and crashed as soon as the committee scene was over. I'm going to try another Repair Install, and then a full uninstall/reinstall.

Man, this is annoying.

After another repair, the graphical glitches are mostly gone. I can start a new game and even import my previous ME3 character, so the save files don't seem to be corrupted at least.

When I do start that new game, however, and save the game, I can't load those saves either.

Well, it's probably time for another 10 gig download and install from scratch. Can't do that today, though.
