To specify, are the new ammo types only dropped once you've maxed out ALL rare character cards, or do they simply replace any already maxed character cards, while you still obtain the non-maxed normally?

Seems to work like the jumbo pack when you have maxed consumables - except you get IV version instead of I-II. I still have some unmaxed common character cards and I already got some ammo IV and also cyclonic modulator IV.

Very much appreciated.

I'm really not happy with this change... I used those character cards after promoting so I don't have to start with a level 1 character again, I've nearly got all the weapons and got all the charactercards (just one or two uncommon ones), and maxed out on Medi-gel/missiles/ammo packs/ops packs, so I get sucky ammo instead? Which I hardly ever use?? I'm really not happy with this and am glad I bought my packs this weekend. Now I get why my commendation and victory pack sucked today! =[

you can buy recruit packs and get 62.5k exp every 5000 credits.
if you want to buy packs for leveling its still possible.

A single bronze would send a character up quite a few levels from level 1. If you have good weapons, you can easily do this in a silver. Just throw that ammo in. If you use biotics, some of those cards are for biotic buffs. Really though, why would N7 mean anything at all if you don't play the character? It's easy to get any class from 1 to 20 in a few hours once you have some decent gear.

Would it have really been so hard to
leave the character cards in and replace them with the new rare
consumables if the randomly selected class was maxed out at level 20?
You know... kinda like how the packs won't give you
Clips/Ops/Medigel/Missiles if they are already at 255...

acfiz wrote...

They cant do that because it would make too much sense.

Apparently so...

I mean... I like promoting characters... I kept all my characters at 20 for a while, back when my N7 was around 200 or so, but I found the game got stale that way.

What keeps me playing now, is the challenge of tweaking builds as I figure out the best way to spec a sub-20 character in order to still be able to pull my weight (particularly on gold), but having to reset all the way back to level 1 in order to do so is really boring and tedious.

I had a nice sytem worked out whereby I'd usually be able to get all my characters back to level 12+ using PSPs and play my way back up to 20 from there and still have a reasonable chance of picking up levels in UR weapons along the way... and there are plenty of folks I've met in games on the 360 that did something similar.

<sarcasm> It's nice to see that Bioware has listened to the vocal minority who choose  not to use the system of promotion, whilst simultaneously throwing a huge spanner into the works for the silent majority who are actually promoting characters, as intended.  Like we needed less  incentive to promote....</sarcasm>

With an N7 rating approaching 7,500, I played multiplayer to promote. I was playing a game of Gold a few minutes ago and asked myself, "Why bother?" I helped our team make it to extraction, but I can't imagine playing as much as I have been. Other than medigels and cobra missiles, I rarely use ANY of the consumables. When I would get an ultra-rare weapon upgrade, I would be slightly disappointed that I wasn't able to level up a character. I guess only those that promote understand that feeling.

In other words, thank you to those that constantly whined about character cards and got them removed from reinforcement packs for those that promote. Now, instead, you can watch those unused ammo packs pile up in your manifest and begin complaining about that.

That and you will find those that have a lot of experience playing the game, playing far less than they did, or no longer playing at all.

Would have been much easier if Bioware had simply made 2 versions of the Premium Spectre Packs. One with consumables only -- for those that need crutches/training wheels to complete a match, and another version of the Premium Spectre Pack that we all know and love/love to hate.

Or they could do what some have been to blind to notice: nerf some of the most powerful weapons/features of characters, and only then make ammo IV consumables available to make them practically the same as yesterday. Meanwhile, character cards are gone.

Sigh.

First of all, nobody whined, this was quite reasonable. Second, there is no way to respect a purchased N7, even if it meant anything. You can easily *play* the characters a very short time and then they are ready for gold. Then you will be able to finally say you didn't use character cards as crutches, you actually worked on it.

Freemyheart is right, I played it for promoting, I like it. And maybe I did use character cards as crutches, but after that many hours playing it's nice to make it a little less tedious to level up the first levels of a character, especially a character I'm not very comfortable with, but like to get used to.Now I have to start all the way down at level one and need to change my play style accordingly, cause it's been a while I played with that low levels.
I thought the whole thing of this multiplayer was promoting?? It's so boring to play with god-like level 20 characters.... Especially now with those new ammo packs... Now we can learn how to play with our eyes closed...

And instead use high level weapons as crutches.... Pardon me if I prefer to actually be able to use the characters' powers when I play them,  instead of running around with the biggest gun I can find on a level 1 adept/sentinel/engineer because I don't have the points to invest in warp/throw/overload/etc./etc./etc.

You'll probably enjoy the game more if you use those ammo. >_> And even for level 3 ammo they certainly do not suck. Also I humbly suggest that you do something with those maxed out missiles/thermals. Those are meant to be used after all.

What do you mean nobody whined? People have been complaining about the character cards since the demo. Now the people that actually used them, can't use them.

And no way to respect a purchased N7? How can you tell the difference between someone who plays one class at level 20 and promotes the rest through experience from cards and plays all the classes and promotes them that way? Either way, they still earned the credits, and the one that plays one class is actually getting their credits worth from the XP gain from the character cards.

If it's so boring to play a high-level character, then all the more reason to play a level 1 character again. If you're not comfortable with it, play Bronze or even Silver, which shouldn't be that hard with all the maxed rares. Plus, as others have pointed out, you can still buy Recruitment or Vet Packs to level your characters if you feel the need to do so. And yes, I, too promoted my characters.

I think what was meant is, you could actually buy your way up with real money through PSP. This is no longer possible. Would you like someone to overtake you in the leaderboard who spends money instead of playing the game? You couldn't tell before, who actually played the game and who just spent a ton of real money on cards (and there are many who did). Gaining N7 should be a reward for playing characters that are not maxed, for progressing them. There is no progression in someone using a level 20 character over and over again and leveling only those he doesn't play through character cards. Where is the achievement in that? It's a cakewalk with a level 20 char.

how about stats for a new loot? Anyway, i'd expect NEW KIND of ammo, not a new level...to be honest, i'd like to see remastered version of Polonium ammo, Phase ammo and Explode/Heavy rail ammo.

Here's the thing:  Now there are packs that should give everyone something that can at least be used for the gameplay they enjoy.  There are recruit and veteran packs that can potentially level your characters even faster than the gold character cards (recruit packs are so cheap) and people who are looking for gameplay enhancement can get that out of SPs and PSPs.

That you would like to be able to get everything out of one or two packs (your XP and chances at URs) where others - perhaps the majority, to boot - were getting virtually nothing out of any pack isn't really a good argument for the old system.
