Did they change the drop?
I have refused to get a psp until the new stufff dropped but I saw the prothean gun and decided to buy a couple.
I got the rare gear that were not opening for me recently. I got 5 gear in 3 psps and I've never gotten two gears before much less twice in three tries
I had been stuck since they added the new ammo then today it's back in force.

edit

I decided to buy three more and i got all the gear now at V

Now No more spectres until DLC drops, lol

confirmed. I got plenty of gear in the last hour. They changed the priorities. I decided to take the chance and spent 1mil. Only 1-2 level4 ammo, 1 UR and plenty of gear. Hope it stays this way. Now I need to replentish my credits for the DLC.

The update changed Gear so they now have a chance to drop in the "guaranteed" slots of Veteran and higher packs. (Previously, the only time they would drop is if the RNG decided to give you an Uncommon/Rare drop in the second-to-last slot before the guaranteed slot.) However, the odds of getting a Gear drop are still pretty darn small (33% or less in a guaranteed slot, according to a statistical record I've been keeping so far. Possibly as low as 10% or less in the random slot.)

i am getting more gears in veteran packs than PSP's or SP's credit spentvise. about 2:1 or 2½:1 ratio compared to SP's and closer to 3½:1 vs PSP's

In terms of credit efficiency, yes, buying VP's will be far more productive for unlocking Gear than buying SP's or PSP's, at least where Uncommon Gear is concerned. There's a chance for two Uncommon Gears to drop in every VP, so when you consider that you can buy 3 - 5 VP's for every SP or PSP, all those additional chances will add up over time. In my opinion, buying SP's/PSP's is still more efficient for attempting to unlock Rare Gear, but if you've already maxed those out, then consider going back to VP's for the Uncommon Gear.

i just maxed 3 rare gears with 440k buying nothing but vet packs from lv2,lv2 and 3, so thats 8 rare gears with 55k a pop, goodluck doing the same on SP's or PSP's

how bout this, UR drop rate bonus proportional to N7 rank, every 500 ranks up 1%?
CC cards back on the table, so the players have to choose their priority - whether to keep ranking up, or settle at current rank to shoot for URs

oh and got the particle rifle, for those of you looking forward to it, it takes almost an entire clip consistent fire on a geth trooper on gold to kill it.

reading this i would have hoped it would be easier to get weapons or characters you dont have. so i will still be spending 2 million credits when the new dlc comes out and maybe getting 1 new character and 1 new weapon if i am lucky.

so i multiply my chances of getting a UR from a SP(6%) by a factor of 1,06 when i am at 3200 something N7.... hardly worth it.

even if it was a solid number, i would say its hardly worth it, considering how stupid the RNG already is.

One way or another it's still going to be painfully slow to max out weapons, but at least we won't have to worry about getting a damn already maxed Character-Card in an overpriced SP or PSP.
Hmmmmm... Maybe I should go back to Veteran packs... :3

it is painfully slow for some people, and considering how large part the gear we got plays in this game, having an RNG for a shop is a retarted idea at best, i just today saw someone with 1UR maxed 1 at 9! indra and talon... he was N7 870 something when he entered the game. I asked him how long he had the game so far... 4½ weeks... 4½WEEKS!!!! i have had it since day one, and i barely have 12 UR unlocks... i dont even have the indra or paladin, or the particle rifle they just added. and it pissed me off. then i figured, meh maybe he used money to buy packs, then i ask how many packs he had bought... he said he had spent 20 bucks on BW points, bought PSP's with them, and 3,4 mill credits... AND HE HAS 1 maxed UR 1 at lv9 1 at lv1 and one at lv2... REALLY BW WTF! that is just a ****ing ****slap to my face... Thank you for a piece of **** shop, you can be certain i aint dropping anymore money to your product... the RNG has trolled me enough, atm i am standing at 6,1 mill credits for my current no UR's spree from packs

I absolutely hate this change. I would rather get a few character cards for every, now all I get is level 4 ammo that I don't care about.

Actually, what he meant was, at N7 500, your Spectre pack UR droprate would be 6%, not 5.05%, so at N7 3200, your UR droprate from Spectre packs would be 11%, not 5.3%

Apparently today's update changed the drop priorities for Gear again, if some of the stories above are true. I haven't had a chance to play tonight, but I'll get in a few Gold/Silver matches and then spam it all on Vet Packs and post my results tomorrow.

Boy, i hope so - I am getting a little weary of not being loved by the RNG on gear. Or UR's.

The happy hour may be gone. I am a few gold gear short to maxing out, and I started getting mostly level4 ammo again.

just bought 10 vet-pax, no uncommon gear in them (but still just consumables again and again and again...)
- might be because i play it on the ps3 and in europe, where some me3-content arrives small bit later (but normally, everything regarding the mp-store effects all platforms simultaneously, i guess...),
or might be because of amazing coincidence again (sure...) - but i can still not confirm it beeing fixed yet, so i might not spend any bit of creds again before earth-dlc arrives
(or at least seeing somebody having the particle-rifle equipped - and surly swagging around with it breakless at first - what would at least indicate that the multiplayer changes of yesterday (or so) have gone live on my platform also
(not that there would usually be any delay for multiplayer-"balance-changes" to go in effect at ps3 recognised by mine - but it would at least mean,
that the store in my version would work proper enough for some lucky to recive this, in the mp fresh implement UR...)).

Bought 6 Vet Packs last night, but all of them turned out to be Ammo. (Note: To save time, I will call all one-use consumables "Ammo".)

Out of 17 Vet Packs opened so far since I started recording my drops, I've gotten 14 Ammo and 3 Gear* (and all three were before yesterday's update). That drops the % rates I gave in my initial post to a 17% or less of getting Uncommon Gear in Veteran Pack guaranteed slots. It seems that drop priorities have NOT been changed, and people who have been getting lots of Gear from Vet Packs must have just been on a lucky streak.

My personal experience has been much better with PSP's, where I've gotten 5 Rare Gears as well as 3 Uncommon Gears out of 7 PSP's. No Ultra-Rares in those 7 PSP's, but I have been getting semi-regular UR's over time as well.

Conclusion? It seems that different people have better luck with various strategies. Find one that works for you and stick to it.

*Curiously, all 3 Gear drops were in a row as well! There might be something to the theory that you should save up your credits, buy one Pack as a test, and if it drops a UR or Gear, buy several more Packs in a row while the RNG is still stuck on whatever variable it used to generate the drops.

The way I think it happens is that there is a human adjusting the priorities for the next X number of packs, or for the next Y hours.
These would explain my incredible luck to spend 1 mil. yesterday and get almost only gold gear, after a long period of getting gold ammo (consumable) only. As I mentioned earlier, this happy hour seems to be over now, and I switched back to saving for the new DLC.

Of course, the same human may adjust the priorities to get the new Earth DLC rare/ultra-rare drops.
I remember Rebellion, when I could not get any of the new weapons or characters for a long time.

After all, teasing people with something new, and make that new thing harder to get is what it is keeping them playing, right?

i kinda think uncommon/rare consumables to be a dumb idea due to it competing with normal rare/uncommon drops

I kinda wish the ultra rare weapon upgrades were a little less ultra rare. But yeah, then they wouldn't be ultra rare. I know. Just seems like a lot of time between getting one of them.

I have my doubts about this theory. While it is possible to change the drop tables (after all, it has to be done every time new items and characters are introduced), in software development, you ideally want to avoid changing code if at all possible, since that opens the door to unexpected bugs and glitches. Besides, I didn't notice any significant bias towards new characters/weapons after the Resurgence/Rebellion DLCs; in my case, it was the Salarian Infiltrator that constantly refused to drop, and the store kept giving me the new characters!

On another note, to add to my good record with PSP's, last night I bought another and got a Rare Gear AND an Uncommon Gear out of it.

It is not about changing code. I think it is a configuration file/interface, with a table of specific probabilities for specific classes/items.
The RNG does its thing, then the algorithm looks up the table to determine what item/class of items should select. If the table indicates that 99% of the numbers generated by the RNG have level 4 ammo, then you are very likely to get ammo.

I'd dare say the level 4 ammo was something they put into place in advance of platinum mode, for whatever that's worth.
