From what I'm reading in the file, it seems that Leviathan is both a character, a ship, AND a species. Which fits with what we know of the Reapers.
The Leviathan seems to be the original species that constructed the Catalyst. The Catalyst, in turn, transformed them into the first actual Reaper. So, Leviathan is the accrued, accumulated sentience of the species that created the Catalyst. As such, it is both the oldest, but also the most imperfect Reaper, and therefore the most likely to go AWOL. Especially since it is explicitly mentioned that being harvested was against the wishes of the species (which might have been intended as a link to the DLC).
As some of you may know, Leviathan is a novel by social philosopher Thomas Hobbes, in which he describes how society functions as a whole, with many parts, and each part in turn allows one person, say, a king, to sit on top to govern all. Individual rights are sacrificed in order to maintain a peaceful society. The King sits on top, by virtue of being given dominance over the people, BY the people.
This isn't the same as what the Reapers are, or do, but for a laymen, it's close enough. Linking this concept with Cthulhu, a dominating power so forceful, it takes over the mind by simply existing, would lead to a very interesting storyline. Since it deals with the original creators of the Catalyst, one already mentioned in the Extended Cut expanded dialogue, I can see how it might be of influence.
Now, I am curious: Suppose Bioware releases more DLC, say, 3 DLC, and all these 3 DLC gives Shepard new information, all of which cumulate into a fifth ending, one where you can reason with the Catalyst, and actually convince him. Would you buy them?[/quote]
Holy cow, yes I would! That is if my Shepard stays alive and reunites :-)
