Maybe he is the origin of the Crucible.

It is a possibility,  it would have take someone that knows alot about the reapers to design it in the first place.  I even thought it came from the reapers/catalyst themselves but judging from the EC I guess it didn't.

Either what's coming would be over the Xbox limit in size, so the ending part was put with the EC to cover it.

I'm not so sure about that whole size limit thing.
If that was a problem, they could have split the DLC into two parts.
Apart from that, the Battlefield 3 Multiplayer Update 3 is 2,4GB in size.

If what they got comming is over 2GB then it would be huge. The EC is massive as it is, to give you an idea it's the same size as Dragon Age: Awakening, Shivering Isles for TES 4 is only 993.75 MB, and Shadow Broker comes in at 1.6GB.
This does raise the question, why is EC one of the biggest things on my HDD?

Damn pre-rendered cut-scenes.

Man, Shivering Isles was a whole game in itself. I spent 30+ hours on it and it was fantastic.

Damn DLC. [Grumpy old man voice.] --> Back in my day, we had expansions.

I know video takes up alot of space, but is there really that much on here? Image IPB

And yeah, Shivering Isles was awesome. Still one of the best pieces of,... lets call it 'extra content', for any game this gen.

 It seems as followed:

1: Species of Leviathan, space-whale form with tentacles.
2: Leviathan creates Catalyst in order to maintain status quo of organic-synthetic relations
3: Catalyst comes to the conclusion, that the only way to maintain said status quo, is to harvest organics at a certain point.
4: Catalyst hunts and harvests all the Leviathan, and creates a vehicle for their collective consciousness, resembling their old form. First Reaper. Later known as Harbinger.
5: Catalyst uses this form as an instrument to harvest more species.
6: After countless cycles, it turns out that, like Prothy the Prothean Javik, one single individual of the original Leviathan Species has survived to this time: the Leviathan of Dis. But...can it be trusted? After all...it did create the Catalyst, and it still indoctrinates.

Close, but the Leviathans created the reapers, The Catalyst just re-purposed them to hold race-milkshakes. The Catalyst says this in the EC

I wish people would stop conflating the Reaper corpse that the Batarians found that _we_ (The Council races) called the Leviathan of Dis (LoD) with the individual in the DLC who identifies it's race as the Leviathans

There is no evidence they are the same thing, in face there is a _lot_ of evidence pointing out they are not.

1. LoD indoctrinates the Batarian Hegemony and hands the populus to the Reapers (It is _pro_ Reaper forces)
2. DLC Leviathan hates the Reapers and is working against them
3. DLC Leviathan does not indoctrinate, it has the ability to control organics by "pushing their mind out" such that the victim doesn't remember but is _fine_ afterwards
4. In the dialogue text the squad are _theorizing_ that the thing they think is a Reaper seems to be working against the Reapers.
5. Later they find out is _isn't_ a Reaper.
6. The LoD _is_ a Reaper.
7. Not a single mention of Dis or Batarians in the leaked dialogue text.

it seem this DLC takes place under water. For the arrival dlc they wanted the base to also be under water, but they later placed it on an astroid for the plot. I was dissapointed that they did not use the underwater lair, it had the whole "Sphere" thing going on, and now it seems that they are going to use this after all, niiice:p

We still don't know if this DLC is real or not. Much if it takes place underwater.

I was referring to the EC actually.
However, I believe in another thread, someone wrote that the cutscenes are in multiple languages, maybe that's because it's so big.

It sounds like Liara is talking to Shepard sarcastically about him trying to help someone else bring down the Shadow Broker i.e. HER. Sounds like she's joking around with him.

Side note: I hope Bioware/EA doesn't decide to scrap this whole thing because we know stuff about it...

Doubtful, the new weapon mods discovered in the EC file that could potentially be linked to this DLC are already fully modeled and textured, which means work has already started on it, they aren’t going to scrap a project once they’ve got to the stage of creating new assets. Plus on his twitter feed Mike Gamble said recently that they’ve been testing some new stuff, they would’ve finished testing the EC a while ago.

Assumeing it's real and ruling out the pessimistic view that Bio simply withheld content to make us pay for it later, it could be for several reasons.

1: They didn't have enough time to finish the content before the game went gold. So had to drop it. This is the reason for several pieces of DLC for a lot of games.

2: BioWare had a "game jam" towards the end of development to come up with ideas for DLC. This is one of them. This how we got mounted combat, kill cams and Dawnguard for Skyrim. (But still no giant mudcrabs Image IPB)

3: (And I'll admit this is less likely.) It's an attempt to further flesh out the ending by giving more back story to the Catalyst.

This DLC would explain why, when Shepard asked the AI kid who created him, and he said "you don't know them and we don't have enough time to talk about it"

This specific conversation could change based on whether you played the dlc or not...:?

Indeed. They probably started work on this just after or just before the games release. I highly suspect we would have had this for a few months by now if they hadn't stoped to fix the endings.

I'm really hoping they use this as an opportunity to more fully flesh out the Reapers and Catalyst and whatnot.

I always thought they could have made the ending more palatable by giving us more relevant info earlier in the game. Like at least some brief info about the Reapers origins and the Catalyst. BEFORE we meet the Catalyst in the last 5 minutes.

When things are coded into a game, everything is basically connected to eachother. Just stright up deleting files can cause bugs and issues with the code. So, when developers decide to cut some dialogue or a scene or something, instead of outright deleting it, many will often just hide it in the dark corners of the game files with execute commands that don't exist in the game itself.

So the Lethiathan of Dis is a rogue Reaper? wonder why its stated by Balak on the Citadel that it aided the reaper forces by indoctrinating Batarians before the arrival of the full Reaper fleet.

Ghehe. Assume that this reaper really wore a white hat and it encounters the batarians. This time it would be advantageous to get rid of the batarian warmongering by indoctrinating them. For once it makes sense. Smart reaper. :P

In all seriousness, it again shows that it is intefering with matters that are none of its business. Right or wrong, reapers are a threat.

You make a lot of very good points. And, believe me, I understand why people would be upset about somthing of this magnitude not being in the game. However.

1: It might not have been an option to of taken people off the MP team. From what I understand these guys were brought in from outside BioWare specifically to build the multiplayer. They might not have been contractually able to help with singleplayer development, or maybe they just didn't have the know how. I'll admit thats unlikely though. There is also the fact that Bio had a lot riding on the mp being up tp par. If it wasn't good from day one people probably wouldn't have bothered with it no mater how good they made it after launch. But overall I agree, Mass Effect is a single player franchise first and foremost, and as such sp development should of taken priority.

2: Again I agree. The Catalyst coming from nowhere with absolutely no foreshadowing (forget Klencory as nowhere does it say the beings of light control/created the Reapers.) is what I listed as my major gripe in the "Yes, we are listening" thread

3: If the purpose of this DLC is retcon in some foreshadowing and back story for the Catalyst, then I'm fine with it. One of the things I was hoping for with the EC was that it would add some dialogue that might of hinted to it's existence, though I never expected it to happen. If Bio want to go back and add an entire mission with the purpose of doing this, then Image IPB. Would I have liked some stuff before, maybe even stuff in Mass 2? Obviously. But you know what they say about being late over never.
