I think the EC may have better defined my understanding of Synthesis...

Ok, so I've read in a few places that some people believe that choosing this we, sentient organic life, change into cyborgs. Or that we are forcing it unto the mass without their individual consent.

Just bare with me...

The first is wrong. The second is half right.

I think what they are trying to get at with synthesis is something being our comprehension. We have bo analogue to compare it to, the closest being a cybernetic organism. We are not turned into machines with organic features and layers, but something fundamentally different. You see this with the DNA scene. I don't understand the physiology of it, but I get what they are trying to get at, I think.

And the second point. Yes, every organic sentient being unknowingly becomes synthesised. And starchild did say they tried to force it without success. And yes, given the choice most would not let themselves succumb to this. But Shepard is different, unique. The catalyst says this. Need a new solution. Shepard is the representative of not just humanity, but sentient life itself. He is given a choice. We all become one.

Maybe I'm clutching at straws here, or I'm seeing things I want to see. I don't know. But this is my limited, but hopeful understanding of synthesis from the EC.

:-)
