Not to discredit anyone here but looking at this forum makes the game look very very bad.
Looking at other places( forums , gamesites ) there is not much talk about technical issues with the game.

Makes you wonder what is really going on ain't it?

peace

It's just that the players are so deeply into the game, that they've discovered even the minutest flaws in the programming of this terrific game.

I think most normal gamers going through this can finish it without any technical flaw unless the're unlucky, or go digging for trouble.

There are a very vocal minority who have issues; I believe the majority to be end-user rather than problems with the game itself (Having installed DA on 5 different machines with entirely different hardware in all of them, I've had no problems with any of them. And that's with DVD:CE, Steam and the EADM versions.) and I suspect I could resolve most of them were I able to get the PC's in question on my workbench.

Also keep in mind, what your seeing here are a ton of "power users" and uber geeks that enjoy pushing their computers to the bleeding edge. A lot of the problems you see are often of our own creation!

From my experience, the game isnt perfect, but closer to be perfect than to be broken.

Just to give you an example:

My game was working fine, I installed two programs to "tweak" the computer; CleanMem, and Rivatuner. Neither one were related to the game, but afterwords it started locking up and freezing. I removed those two programs, and everything was fine with the game again. I'm not sure which one caused the problem, but those were the only changes between game working and game crashing!

I think compared to a lot of gams..the game is pretty solid and stable. The bad textures and lack of proper textures being released is the one that gets me..been saying it since release and still no word on it or official fix..and I think there isn't going to be one..don't think they really care.

There were a number of issues (some still exist) at launch with a number of the download "versions" (vendor dependent,) and well as a little confusion over registering the game. I had issues with my download version, but found a work around in less than 10 minutes research and the vendor patched within a few hours.

I do notice after awhile of playing the game it slows considerably, but I saw a number of posts about memory leak issues, so for now; just existing and restarting the game until fixed.

I wouldn't call it "broken" as I've completed it, and others have played through the various storylines several times. I suppose it is a matter of perspective and your definition of broken.

I'd love to tell you how the game is but I can not play it as it crashes every time I load a saved game. EA has (finally) acknowledged the issue but that was nearly 3 weeks ago and still No fix.

The game is massively unoptimized.

For the people having loading problems or the extremely odd performance jumps, it's a nightmare.

I'm running this game on a 4ghz quad core cpu and my machine has 16 gb of ddr3 2ghz... why the hell is it like this: for the first few minutes of playing dao on full details all areas have a loading time up to 3-4 seconds... after that the time increases... after 6 hours of constant gameplay levels in orzammar for example load up for like... 3 minutes... this is insane and it's a proof that this game isn't "optimized" properly for high-end gaming rigs ;p

though a simple fast restart fixes the thing, it's not that it's unplayable ;p

reading tech support forums always gives a very wrong impression of any game. they all look like this, regardless of how buggy it actually is

It's a matter of perception, really. The number of people with web site problems are over one third of the message traffic, even though the web site has its own Help forum, that fills up the tech forum with a lot of extraneous traffic about DLC, mostly.

The greatest percentage of buyers never visit forums, and are not having problems with the game, although they probably are having trouble with the buggy system for handling the DLC, and just don't use forums when they do experience that difficulty.

A huge percentage of message traffic is duplicate threads covering the same problems that either can't be matched up using the crippled SEARCH function (another web site failure), or didn't even try to use SEARCH.

NErWOnek --> FYI - there are several folks complaining about potential memory leak after long periods of play. I have the same problem..though my specs aren't on par with your machine, they are more than what is needed to run this game on the highest settings.

Well, I have just posted a problem that comes toward the end of the game where I cannot continue. (See my post), so I am pretty miffed to say the least. And while I didn't have many technical problems, which means Bioware QA'd the code, they definitely did not QA the gameplay, as I had battles with game set on easy that were nightmare battles, and battle on normal that were easier than easy battles! I had one battle I couldn't win in 14 tries (12 with the game set to easy!), so cheated to get past it The next battle was the Boss battle and I won that on normal!! So the battle before the boss battle couldn't be won on easy and the boss battle could be won on normal!

Anyway, with me not getting through those gates anytime soon, unless someone comes up with an answer, the game is currently over for me. 95% of the way to the end and a killer bug - gotta love it!!! :(

Hi there everyone.

I played several characters (thats just how I tend to play - it drives my GF nuts - but I like to start a warrior and get to a certain place then go back and start a mage then go back and start a rogue, etc. I know - I'm weird) and I was having NO PROBLEMS. The game was on the highest settings, it played beautifully, I was having a blast and I fell in LOVE with this game. Then one day (and now I think I can say that this was after I used the toolset to tweak one of my characters) I go to play the game and it has slowed way down and then continued to get worse.

I have since had several problems with this game. I have spent the last four days trying to fix them. Trying to fix even ONE of them. The most vexing problem is the slowing down of the gameplay - slowing down of the FPS. I've been all over the forums and tried everything I could find with no good result. I finally got the DLC content I paid for to show up, but it doesn't really matter because I can't play the ****ing game. My last attempt at fixing these was to completely uninstall it and re-install it without the toolset and to try starting a brand new character and imagine my dismay when the CHARACTER CREATION screen slows way down! But I forge ahead thinking maybe it will get better when the game starts and of course it's even worse. So that's it for me. No game is worth this frustration - I'll go play Borderlands again and wait for Diablo III. I will pay attention to these forums in the hopes that someone somewhere will figure out a fix that will work for me.

I really appreciate the help I have gotten from all the great members here - you know who you are - and I really, really despise EA for their total lack of CS. I'm cancelling my pre-order ME2 order and I hate the fact that it will not matter in the least to them. I cannot say it strongly enough that the members here who are trying to help us are the GREATEST and you all have my undying gratitude.

I don't have near the expertise of you guys, but I wonder if the slow downs and some of the other problems with this game are connected to the fact that you need to be connected to the internet when playing? I mean, if I completely uninstall the game, and re-install it (keeping in mind that the first time I installed it it worked beautifully) shouldn't I be able to start from scratch and have it play like it did at the beginning? What is left of the busted version except what is online?

Just want to also say I envy all you guys that are having no problems.

I will try one last thing - to play the game completely offline (but it seems I read somewhere in the last three or four days that that causes problems too). (But then, what does it matter? It's totally unplayable now).

I really don't understand EA's CS. If all they did was put up a post saying "We know, we know - we're woking on it" that is all it would take to alleviate so much frustration out here. Assuming of course that they actually WERE trying to fix it.

Heres hoping that some day soon there will be an answer to all these problems.

CS doesn't fix things - the programmers do. All CS does is collect information and if there are enough hits to suggest theres a bug or an incompatibility, they send it off and the devs look at it and try to reproduce it. Only sometimes does CS already know whats wrong and a fix for it - if the devs communicated that to them first. If they can reproduce it then they work on a fix for it. Then the fix needs to be tested.

Some things can't be found. For example, there was a guy complaining about not being able to get a connection for the longest time. No firewall, antivirus, tried multiple connections etc. Finally he figured out that it was his PeerGuardian IP filtering software (probably a torrenter...) that was blocking EA's or Bioware's authentication servers. No way CS would be able to find that without physical access to his machine.

Baddmonkey, if I experienced anything like the game getting slower over time, i would check a few things: cpu and gpu temperature and hard disk vitality (http://en.wikipedia....wiki/S.M.A.R.T.)
