Yeah, I totally noticed that myself. I liked the twist they put into the ending so it wouldn't seem so similar; I got tired of hearing Buzz Aldrin anyway.

Grubas... I would readily agree that shooting the Catalyst triggering the "refuse" ending IS a slap in the face to the bitter, whiny fans who demanded Bioware change the ending to cater to their complaints.
Difference is, I think those fans deserved to get slapped, so I'm okay with it.
Crap in, crap out.
Fact: No one will make bumperstickers that say, "Shepard Lives". Too bad, that.

What did you all expect when you picked refuse? "Oh the entire game they've told us that we need the crucible cause the reapers can't be defeated conventionally, but I'm sure they were just pulling our leg"

A random BSN-er plays Mass Effect 3.
Every character in the game (other than indoctrinated villains) told him the Reapers must be destroyed.
Goes ahead and picks Synthesis. Gets "best" ending possible.
Proceeds to tell people that picking Refuse is stupid because it goes against everything they were told throughout the game.

No offense to Buzz Aldrin, whom I respect very greatly, but there's a pretty clear reason why Buzz Aldrin is an astronaut and not a voice actor.
Every time he says, 'my sweet,' it breaks me completely out of the immersion. Ugh.

So really, it's just like you said: Could it have been better? Yes, definitely it could, and probably should, have. Does it render Mass Effect unplayable like the original endings? No, and I'm actually looking forward to the new DLC now.

That doesn't mean I like the consequences of them, or that I didn't wish it was a little more "sweet" and a little less "bitter" but I still vastly prefer it to the original material.
Anyway. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Refusal is Bioware spiting their fans, The fact you can trigger the scene by shooting the catalyst speaks volumes on their intent. Why waste time inputting a code just to trigger that scene? The catalyst was just a hologram he can't be hurt, but he throws a hissy fit and kills everybody. because Shepard decided to take a pot shot at him. Don't get me wrong I still pick refusal every time, well if I can ever get up the energy to even do my second playthrough. The sad part is though Refusal is better than the other three garbage they called endings.

I really don't agree with/understand this trail of thought.
Why would they go to the effort of creating a brand new unadvertised ending including nice touches like So Be It! A new Stargazer scene, Liara's message and the fact you did in the end stop the Reapers.
Wouldn't a bigger insult be not giving that option at all? Or giving it but scrapping the new Stargazer/Liara/So Be It and just saying "Everbody dies."
It just seems crazy to me to say "They spent time, effort and money on this free DLC to insult us!" and it seems even crazier to imagine anyone on Bioware/EA's staff being okay with adding insults to an already unhappy fanbase.
If it was an insult, it's one of the worst constructed ones I've ever seen because I wasn't insulted by it in the least and found it entertaining. Meanwhile it cost them time, effort and money to employ.

I wasn't expecting anything in terms of a new ending. I was expecting the Catalyst to reiterate that the crucible is my only option and continue to force me into the 3 choices. I actually said this in my opening post.

He is better than Jessica Chobot though. She's more monotone than Mark Meer, and that's saying something.

I love the conversation where she explains how her home was destroyed because it had a factory that made binoculars.
It was supposed to be sad and endear you to her but she delivered it in such a bad/uncaring way that it became hilarious. Especially bouncing off Shepard (especially the more emotional Femshep voice) who is actually doing a good job of relflecting sadness at what's she's saying.

Man I had to hear that like ten times - seriously, ten times - to understand what she was trying to save in her response. I still don't think I get it.

My problem with refuse is that its in character at first and then its not. And there's nothing players can do. Game over.

The main reason I didn't like the EC, and didn't like the original endings was the lack of scenes of our war assets. I think they really missed a big opportunity to turn it around. Imagine if in the rejection ending we got to see all of the war asset's, all of our squadmate's final stands. That was, and remains, my biggest complaint with the ending. The lack of seeing our war assets.
I agree.
I'd have loved it if low EMS reject meant everybody died quickly and the Reapers discovered Liara's beacons. Cycles never end.
Then mid EMS means we held out for a century like predicted, Reapers don't discover the beacon and the cycles are stopped at great gost. Galatic society rebuilds from it's brutal battle with Reapers.
And high EMS means we held out for many centuries (Maybe even a thousand years), Reapers take heavy casualities but eventually wipe us out, Reapers don't discover the beacon and the cycles are stopped at a more minimal cost against the weakened Reapers. A stronger unified galatic soceity forged to defeat the Reapers lives on.
