I agree with the thread title, Ieldra2. I was disgusted and upset with the original conclusion of ME3, and like many others, was raging about how I'd never buy anything from Bioware again after I'd played it. The EC solved basically everything I had a problem with. The only thing they could've done better was showing a reunion with Shepard+Crew in Destroy, but I suppose my imagination will have to suffice for that. It's so heavily implied that they see each other again that it's basically guaranteed anyway. Good enough for me, and way better than the original.

I'm much happier with ME3's ending now though. I'm not left wondering if anything I did was even worth it. Instead I know without a doubt that I won, and all the sacrifices weren't in vain. Instead of wondering if all the races retreat into an isolated galactic dark age, I got to see Krogan families with their children, beginning construction on a proper society. I also got to see Zaeed chilling out on a recliner with some beers. That made it all worth it :D (srsly, I lol'd.)

Basically, the EC represents what I was expecting from the trilogy's conclusion the first time I played ME3 on 3/6. I hope EA and Bioware learn from this, that a few extra months can make all the difference. I imagine fan feedback would've been a lot more favorable if the content in the EC was there the first time.

That said, I'm extremely thankful that they did the EC, and released it for free. I'm now looking forward to any new ME3 SP/MP DLC, and hopefully a continuation of the IP, ME4 or whatever :)

It just occurred to me that Bioware didn't tell the truth (in a good way) when they said they wouldn't change the endings. They made one very big change that's probably the reason why the EC works at all:

No more dark age. Every high-EMS ending - except if the Reapers win of course - has a good future.

Since I have the impression that this dark age was part of the original vision, I can only say: thank you, Bioware, for compromising where it was most needed!

Too bad the thematic abandonment, retcons, and plot holes are still around.

Funny enough, the EC actually contributed to some plot holes and retcons.

Yes, Ieldra, they lied. Gloriously. I actually feel like I won the game now. It's very much a "your galaxy, your way" ending. Want to usher in a brave new world where Reapers are friendly and there are new wonders and horrors at the cost of your life? Done. Want to become God? Done. Want to have life strike out on its own, free of Reaper machinations but not its technology? Done. Rather burn than compromise? As you wish. No choice feels obviously best. Something for everyone.

I said before its amazing what 10 minutes can do to a fanbase, now i find its even more amazing what another 10 minutes can do. A complete 180.

Nope.

We're hard to port but still on collision course.

C'mon what armass 81 said there is basically true. I know ALOT of people are still unhappy with the ending but you cannot deny ALOT of people are ecstatic with the new endings.

I mean each one is so unique now and has a bit of everything for all the shephards.

Fair enough if you still hate but you gotta admit bioware have done pretty well all things considered. And they even left IT theory intact.

i dont understand how this changes anyones view of the endings. if yhou were happy before, you should be know, if you werent before...how does the ec help? and thats an honest question

I'll never love StarChild, and I still don't approve of this being the end of the series.

But the EC works for me inspite of his nonsense.  Firstly, Shepard being able to contest and then refuse his dumb logic makes the whole seen flow a bit better.  Shep being a bit more argumentative makes it seem like he didn't simply give up and accept it.

Changing the flashbacks so that they finally correlate to the player's choices was a good emotional touch and it's amazing that they didn't think it should've been that way from the start.

The victory footage is pretty great ... seeing the Asari celebrate dead reapers on Thessia, the krogan on Tuchanka ... these are things that help instill a sense of victory into the ending.  Ditto the slide show and Henriksen narration.  The LI slide (for Jack and Miranda) is far more hopeful than what we had before, as was the squad holding off on putting Shep's nameplat on the casualty wall.

Not saying the EC worked perfectly, but it helped give a sense of victory where there wasn't one before.  It's still flawed and I'll always hate the deus ex machina that ended this brilliant trilogy - but the little additions around it helped make the experience work for me.

And that's why I can appreciate it.

Too bad they're 3x horribly written.

Seriously, only the Reject ending makes sense, and that leads to utter failure.

Yes, and that's why I'm good with the ending now in spite of the problems with the premise and the inconsistency of some of the exposition. I see the scenario as more of an excuse to make a decision about the future of the galaxy rather than a solution to a problem.

Oh, the one thing we agree on is the dismissal of the dark age. That had me so depressed about ALL of the endings.

But there's hope now, which was really great.

My Shep now feels like a big damn hero, and that's what I wanted from the conclusion. Now I know I haven't perma-wrecked the entire galaxy, I'm good.

For starters, the Star Kid. He still speaks no sense. Second, the pick-up scene. Third, the handwaving of how the galaxy rebuilds. Fourth, Shepard surviving in Destroy. Fifth, Joker fleeing without trying to get you, with your squad basically encouraging him to leave you behind. To name a few.

1. The Catalyst makes a lot more sense now, actually. There's a thread floating around about it, but in essence the EC confirms that you aren't SUPPOSED to agree with him. His logic is that of a computer, lacking any morality and only trying to fulfill his task to the utmost efficiency, which is "preserving organic and synthetic life." He fulfills his task through the Reapers, which is completely immoral but since he's the villain THAT IS THE POINT. And Shepard is now basically calling BS on his logic in every dialogue wheel.

2. The pickup scene was created because your squad showing up on the Normandy was a plot hole. While it gets a plot shield from Harbinger, the evacuation scene is touching if your LI is there and contains great dialogue.

3. It's not handwaving. They actively retconned things like the relay destruction. And it's great.

4. What's the problem?

5. Do you think Shepard would have wanted them endlessly circling the Citadel, waiting for him to eject into space or something? He would have told them to get to safety. Staying behind in that scenario would have been stupid, not brave.

Wrong, I like to exaggerate to annoy Ieldra.

He can attest to this.

-Isn't our cycle past the point of synthetic rebellion? Why would they need to stop our cycle due to a feared synthetic uprising when we just made peace with the geth? Why need to make new life to grow if we won't be doomed to the same synthetic/organic war fate?

-Godchild says that much of our relied on tech will be destroyed, but can be rebuilt, as seen in destroy ending. Does this mean that EDI and the Geth can be reactivated? seeing as how their "being" is just software, and not the hardware they inhabit. Is it possible they can be brought back seeing as how SHEPARD IS ALIVE in that ending?

That's what he meant. The Geth and EDI can come back, but not as the same beings. At least it doesn't make their deaths look...as grim as before.

It's still terrible though.

When you destroy the hardware, the software goes, too. They could possibly recreate EDI and the geth, but rebuild them? Doubt it.

Destroy = genocide
Synthesis = Forced authoritative society and loss of free will IMO
Control = Playing god, eventually Reaper Shepard will go insane

They all suck tbh in the long run and provide room for more antagonists, which is fine, as Mass Effect New Series is imminent.
