All I did was try to make a local copy of effect_damage_nss. Now when I try to start a new game, I get an error message saying "Unable to load module."

I even deleted the files I had made (in toolsetexport and addins), to no avail.

Yes, I used a local copy. I did not check out the original.

Empty Export Directories did NOT work.

Just to be clear, can you give the full paths to the directories you cleared. I made the dumb mistake of not clearing out C:/Documents and Settings/GameCoder/My Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/packages/core/override/toolsetexport when I initially ran into this issue a while back...

Also, if you update to the newest version of the toolset, this problem is supposed to go away...

C:\\Documents and Settings\\My Name\\My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\packages\\core\\override\\toolsetexport

C:\\Documents and Settings\\My Name\\My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\\\AddIns\\My Mod

Is there a way to just update the toolset, or do I have to re-install the whole shabang? Will the update fix my game retroactively, or just prevent it from breaking again?

It all depends. If you don't care about losing data from an existing module, then just install the new toolset over the existing one, and you're done.

If you want to keep your data, please read the WIKI first. If you have any concerns, post back here before doing anything, because one small mistake my end up in you losing everything.

Nah, like I said, I just got my toes wet.

Thanks for your help.

Edit: installing the toolset update didn't fix the problem, but it will prevent it from reoccurring. Here's how to fix it once it's happened: http://social.biowar.../8/index/114380
