For the last few months I've been thinking of what would have made Mass Effect 3 even better. Besides some of the obvious problems with the ending(s), one thing I really wanted to see was an alternate story to happen during the game.
In Mass Effect 2, you worked with Cerberus to fight the Collector's. In the game you could either work completely with Cerberus and become The Illusive Man's "pet" or you could decide to work against Cerberus and remain loyal to the Alliance. This is something that should have continued in Mass Effect 3, and here's my idea how.
Paragon Storyline: Commander Shepard continues loyal to the Alliance and seeks to get all the different races of the galaxy to join forces to defeat the Repaers. Meanwhile, Shepard continues to deal with Cerberus getting in the way as the war against the Reapers rages on. In the final scenes, Shepard kills T.I.M. and the ending will play out however you choose. Basically, this is a shorten version of what the actual story line is in Mass Effect 3. However, in my idea this way of playing the game would be more of the Paragon or "Good" way of playing the game.
Renegade Storyline: This is where my idea comes into play. In the Renegade version of Mass Effect 3, Shepard continues his work for Cerberus and uses the Alliance to find resources to control The Reapers. The Illusive Man uses Shepard to find The Catalyst and ultimately Shepard chooses to follow T.I.M. onto the Citadel to control The Reapers. The final scene would play out where Shepard and T.I.M. are confronted by Anderson, who shoots T.I.M. and Shepard ultimately has to shoot Anderson to reach The Catalyst.
(At any point during the game, Shepard can choose to switch where his loyalty belongs.)
Now this idea I wanted to see in Mass Effect 3 is a quick run through of what I wanted to see, the idea still needs to be worked out and the storyline expanded. But this was to give a idea of what could have been included that would have made the game even better (again, besides the problems with the endings)
I really wished BioWare did something like this during Mass Effect 3, because it seems odd that Cerberus would automatically be your enemy EVEN if you did everything The Illusive Man wanted. It would have made more sense for the option to continue working with Ceberus, along with the original story options. What do you think of having this alternate way of playing the game? Would you have enjoyed having this optional storyline in the game?
