Weather you like EC or not at least now I think we can all agree that the game has indeed ended.
Before that ME3 just stoped before what should have been an epic climax, showed you a bunch of confusing imagery and then told you to buy DLC. I remember thinking to myself "what the **** just happened? Did I win?"
Now, even though I still think all the endings are terrible at least they can officialy be considered "endings". The Galaxy was not destroyed by the mass relays, the Normandy was not traped on a jungle planet and the Krogan did not eat everyone on earth. The war ended, organics won, the end.
On a side note:
Why do I have the feeling that BioWare was trying to force Synthesis on the player? It's the shiniest, most in-the-middle choice you can make and is even presented as "the most perfect solution". Even in the epilogue it seams to have had the most benefits. And when you want to destroy the reapers for being the murderous abominations that they are the writers are all "oh yea? you dont want synthesis well guess what! if you choose destroy EDI will DIE! And... and all the Geth will die aswell! So THERE!". It still seams forced to me. Ah well, I'll just headcanon it out...
At least now it IS an ending. (+ a few thoughts on Synthesis)
