Alright, so I just finished the new ending, and I'm having trouble putting my thoughts into words, but here goes.
So they tried to explain why your squadmates suddenly disappear, that's good, but in such a weird way. Apparently the battle in space wasn't as important they all said and the Normandy had some extra time to come say hi. And while they're at it, they can pick up a couple of unimportant ground troops, ignoring the fact that there are boat loads of wounded soldiers that aren't getting special treatment. Plus there's the fact that Harbinger seems content to completely ignore the ship he can destroy in a single shot. But maybe I'm overthinking things. Maybe Harbinger was focusing on the ground forces to make sure no one got into the beam, and he didn't notice the Normandy, whatever, at least they addressed it.
The conversation with TIM is the same, but I never had much of a problem with that part anyway, so that's ok.
And then we get the starchild.....f***. I wasn't exactly optomistic about the extended cut, but I was hoping they would at least try to fix the worst part of the game. They added more dialogue options, so that's nice, I guess. At the very least they give an option to reject the idea of giving in to the catalyst, though it ends in a "bad guys win, sucks to be you" ending. Not even a final stand, just "you lose."
And then they get to my biggest issue with the ending, the complete lack of any kind of closure. The EC has more closure than the old ending, but that's not saying much. The game over screen when you die has more closure than the old ending. I chose the destroy ending because I refuse to choose the other 2 options, and I fully embrace any option that results in starjar exploding.
But at least they answered some questions: the citadel and relays were damaged, but not destroyed, and are eventually repaired. The crew of the Normandy eventually repair the ship, and escape wherever they crashed.
I'll admit I was moved when I saw Tali putting up Shepards name on the memorial. I was hoping for an ending where Shepard survived, but at least it gives some closure. Shepard gave his life to destroy the reapers.
*breath scene*
.................fffffffff(insert string of swears here)
So Bioware fixed some things, but not enough. They did as well as they could have without actually changing the ending.
Thoughts?
So what just happened?
