Positive threads are kind of heartwarming after the madness that is the past months.
I agree. The EC was much better than I anticipated, though I confess my expectations were very low. All that's missing is a love interest reunion for high EMS destroy, but at least it's implied.
I can't believe it.... Bioware prooved me wrong.

I almost thought that they went too far with the hand-holding in this one. Learning more about the Catalyst makes it sound much more like an insane AI that must be stopped rather than an ancient AI with an interesting point. So rather than a powerful being with a different perspective, the Catalyst seems more like a faulty machine that we are supposed to disagree with no matter what.
The writers literally made the Catalyst say under certain terms that destroying the Reapers will cause damage to our existing technology but it will all be alright. Kind of takes the sense of desperation that was there when the game first came out, but these things aren't really that serious since I pretty much got more of the things I liked about the ending with this extended cut.

I must say that compared to what we had before i like them much better. It still really bugs me that i can't actually SEE being reunited with my LI even though the "hints" may as well be neon signs. Just the fact that i never see them embrace again on screen just leaves me feeling...not excited about it.
Ya i'm not seething with hate like before but just kinda...meh. I feels irrational, but there ya go

I admit that the extended cut is a lot (by means 10 times) better than the originals. It kind of feels like the dragon age origins verson of the ending with the epilogue and the additional scenes, it was really too amazing to see.

Glad to hear it. I've been saying for weeks now the ending is good but apparently people need to see everything so the EC did just that and now majority of the haters are switching sides. It feels good. I loved your post.
The ending was not good before the EC. The EC retconned things like the relay destruction so that everything is much more positive now. The EC expanded on things that were confusing or downright absent in the original.

I was really disappointed when I played the destroy ending for this reason. I didn't think being reunited with the love interest was that much to ask for. It's what I was looking forward to the whole series. The synthesis ending changed my mind though. I loved that it was full of catharsis and hope - it gave me the sense of achievement the original ending lacked.

Shepard got shafted. All I wanted was a reuniting of squad mates and Shepard. At least I'm not confused anymore. Don't know whether that's better or not.
